“Avoid if you're paying”

Clarion Hotel Dublin IFSC

Aug 20, 2005

I stayed there for 1 night in Aug 05, and was glad it was for just 1 night. Think the City of London at the weekend; empty because it's the weekend and the business types aren't there.

Don't get me wrong, it's a modern, clean hotel. But there's no character at all, and for £115 a night, there are much better deals to be had in Dublin.

It's in the financial quarter, and is a good 15 minute walk from O'Connell Street and anywhere where people are; ie it's pretty remote. But if you're company is putting you up there while you do business in the IFSC, then it's fine.

For some reason it was really noisy outside, with lorry engines on all the time.

I had a long chat with the duty manager while I waited for a cab (no buses go here) and he shared my view that it was essentially a pretty dull place with nothing going on, but also that it's meant for high flying business people for the offices next door, not tourists.

Overall: it's so far out the city centre that it's a real chore to get anywhere. It's nice enought, but sterile. Next time I goto Dublin i'll opt for something closer to the action, and with a bit more character.

“I loved this hotel”

Clarion Hotel Dublin IFSC

I stayed here for 5 nights when in Dublin for business. I really enjoyed this hotel. I love the clean, simple modern design. I had a regular double room and it was spacious and comfortable. The service was good and the front desk staff were helpful and responsive. There was free broadband in the room which is great because most of the other four star places I stayed at charged between 10-15 euros a day for internet. There is a great gym and indoor pool, and I also used the steam room. I loved the location. It is in the newly redeveloped docklands area of Dublin. It is very modern, with many cafes and a few bars. There is a Marks & Spencer food shop just outside, and a Mace supermarket a block away. I was able to walk along the Liffey to Dublin city centre in about 15 minutes. It's a great walk, and much better staying there than in the crowded and over-priced city. I got a really good deal (about euros 100 per night).

“Great hotel”

We've just come back from a 3 night stay at the Clarion and loved it. The room wasn't huge, but fine for what we needed, and it was nicely done, comfortable and clean. We also had a balcony which was great. We ate in the Sinergie restaurant one night, and had the 25 Euro 3 course Table d'Hote menu (available from 6-7.30) and found both the food and service there fantastic.

It is a little bit of a walk to the centre, but I'd recommend it.

“Poor service Not 4 star!”

Clarion Hotel Dublin IFSC

Jul 10, 2005

Statyed here for 2 weeks end June/early July 05.

Nice looking hotel but the constant heavy lorry traffic outside is a drag.

Good leisure facilities with gym and pool but the service in the hotel itself is very poor.

Requests for wake up calls not carried out

Newspapers not delivered to rooms, front desk made the excuse that they did not have time to go to the newsagents to collect them - this was at 07.30am! Surely there must be a better arrangement

Water/drinks in mini bar not replaced.

Small rooms

Clarion hotel calls itself a business hotel but appears to have no idea what that entails. Good location for the IFSC and a potential ideal banking customer base on their doorstep.

Just need the staff to stop trying to pose at the front desk and actually service their customer needs.

Very disappointed!

“run of the mill hotel”

The Carion is nothing special, a business hotel without character. The rooms are small though some benefit from a balcony with spectacular views of Dublin, the river and the mountains. It is a fair bit to city centre on foot though a taxi ride should not be more than € 7. The hotel bar on my visit was blasting out TV on big screens (If you don't like it, tough!) and was not properly stocked: no olives for a Martini to be found in the entire hotel, no Red Bull. The restaurant was mediocre. We were the last dinners (10pm) and the staff were eager to drag garbage bags through the restaurant and set up breakfast! Not very stylish. The Clarion is good for business visitors in the IFSC but there are better hotels in city centre.
