“Magnificent property, rooms can be noisy, long walk to front door from bus stop”

Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel

Mar 11, 2008

Beautiful property, 15 minutes outside the city center. i got a great web rate, like US150 a night thru the radisson website. One big problem travellers need to be aware of. If you take the bus from the airport or town, yes, the stop is right in front, but its at the main gate, you need to walk a football field length to get from the bus stop to the front door. Also, the path is gravel!!!! Not good for luggage, I had a huge suitcase with wheels, but i had to drag it thru the gravel. I just wish i would have known this, i would have taken a cab. If you are travelling light, this is no issue.

My first room was a standard room and the walls were paper thin. You could hear the people and tv of the room next door clearly, and i didnt get the idea they were being loud, the walls were just too thin.

I saw the radisson 100% guarantee, and called the manager. I respectfully asked / demanded to be moved and they put in a what seemed to be a club level room, nicer furnishings and view and very quiet!!!

Radisson had a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your stay was free. I was just there for a night, but i requested the refund and i was not charged for the nights stay.

Overall, really nice historic property, nice staff, nice rooms and although I had some problems, they were quickly dealt with to my satisfaction, which is the key. I would return to the property and i would recommend it to a friend, with the warning about the trek to the front door and the potential for noise.

“Great break from City Hubbub”

Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel

Outside the city, but a nice city bus stop is right outside the hotel and it only takes about 10-15 minutes to ride into the city center. The hotel has beautiful grounds and the room modern and comfortable. Good for those that like a break from the city hubbub when you are tired.

Had a lovely room, gorgeous view of the grounds. It was clean and the bathroom wonderful. However, something was wrong with the heating system in the room and we could not get it to turn off. The night manager on duty did not handle the problem well-he needed lessons on customer relations. He would not change our room, nor did he offer any kind of a courtesy discount due to the sleepless night of the room being in the 80s F. I was surprised, because Radisson hotels are usually very atuned to guests and take care of problem situations expertly and adeptly. This gentleman did not. If this was different, I would have rated the hotel above average to excellent.

The Orangerie bar/restaurant was delicious and moderately priced. The Talavera, the Italian restaurant was outrageously expensive for what you got. Small portions and snooty service.

    • Disliked — Snooty service in Restaurant, customer relations with manager on duty

“One Night Stay”

Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel

Jan 11, 2008

A few things need to be disclosed here.

1 - Only stayed one night on business
2 - For some reason they upgraded me to a suite

For the business traveller this is a good hotel. Check in was highly professional and fast. The Suite was comfortable, with everything you could want for a one night stay.

Nice touches in the room were a Nespresso Coffee Machine, with a choice of coffees to freshly brew and free internet access.

The bed had a matttress topper than made it soft and initally comfortable - however I prefer a firm mattress, so this would have been a problem had I need to stay more than a night or so.

I had breakfast served in the room. It turned up on time and was really quite good. Fresh Orange Juice!

There is a nice bar / lounge room, and outside there is some nice gardens to walk around. I can image that if you had one of those all day business meetings, the gardens would be a big attraction and really nice to walk around during breaks.

Staff were attentive. The taxi's we asked for turned up quickly.

I travel to Ireland a couple of times a year on business, and will be going back to this hotel again.

“Great Experience”

Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel in numerous occasions. I love this place! You feel like you are being pampered constantly.
I made the reservation directly with the hotel. Everything was smooth and easy and staff were very efficient and polite.
Price is not that cheap but this is a 5 star property. Try to book any other 5 star in Dublin and you will find this is the cheapest and probably the nicest hotel of them all.
Rooms have been just refurbished and everything is in perfect condition. Lovely views and well appointed rooms. The bed is the most comfortable ever and you really wish you could sleep there everynight!
The Talavera Restaurant it's a real italian experience with Italian staff (and Italian Chefs so I was told). Food is really fresh and this is probably the best Italian Restaurant in Dublin!
I will stay again. This is always a nice experience and I have never had a reason to complain

“Un-Templebar”

Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel

We spent just one night here. I found the hotel charming and the setting was glorious, the grounds were lovely (I believe it used to be part of the Arts facility of the University before it was a hotel...well thats what the taxi driver told us) The staff were nice and friendly. Our room was large and clean and I thought quite charming - Elemtis products....Nice. A bed you just wanted to fall into - very comfy. Bathrooms not modern but clean and in keeping with the building. Nothing to complain about.I booked direct on the Raddison web and I got a better price than some of the money saving sites. Its not cheap but I got what I paid for.

If you want the Temple Bar side of Dublin, this is very un-Templebar. This is a 20 Euro taxi drive from the centre. Its out a bit - nice and peaceful, relaxing and romantic.

As stated by others, breakfast was overpriced at 22 euros so we didnt partake so I cant comment on it but next time I go to Dublin, Im, hopefull, going to stay Radisson SAS St. Helen's Hotel again!
