“No problems at the Parliament/Arlington”

Arlington Hotel Temple Bar

I stayed at the parliament in mid July with my friend who had never been to Dublin before. We had a fantastic time made much better by the location of this hotel. We were only 5 mins walk away from Temple Bar area and 10 mins from the Guinness storehouse. Grafton street and O'Connell street are only a short stroll away too.
The hotel is being done up but is scheduled to be completed by mid August.
We had absolutely no disruptions from builders etc while we were there, no noise, mess etc. Someone wrote that they were disappointed that there was no bar etc but Dublin is such a busy and thriving city that I am sure they managed to find alternative bars and eateries. You certainly will not starve or die of thirst in Dublin city centre and if you get bored???? there is definately something wrong with you!!!!!!!!!!!
The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially the wee blonde haired Irish girl on reception (sorry forgotten her name).
Breakfast was first class, fresh fruits - pineapple, kiwi fruit, melon etc, a variety of cereals and fruit juices and a really delicious full irish breakfast- all buffet style so you can be as greedy as you like!
The room service was very efficient, the girls all work very hard and always have a smile on their faces, nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are lovely and clean.
There was a bit of noise from outside traffic and drunken revellers but what do you expect?, it is in Dubin for goodness sake, it's a city that never sleeps, or it seemed like it! We requested a room upstairs at the back of the hotel and that's what we got, the windows are double glazed and if kept shut I am sure the noise would be minimal but as it was hot when we went we had to open them but really it was not a problem for us.
We were given a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival at the hotel to apologise for the upheaval and we did receive an e-mail informing us on the name and ownership change, taxi drivers and bus drivers do recognise the name Parliament hotel more but Arlington Hotel is in great big letters on side of hotel and frankly if you are not entirely sure where you are going is it not sensible to have a map, directions and do some research into your hotel and your area? I just cannot understand how some people could turn up at the wrong hotel!!!!!
My friend and myself are 38 and 42 who have the heart of 18 year olds and the bodies for our ages so although we tried really hard to party our stamina kept letting us down!
I loved this hotel and the location of it so much that I have booked my son and his girlfriend here for a surprise for his 21st birthday next month, we are so jealous of them!!!
Be sure to visit the 50s style diner that is located about 100mtrs down the street and treat yourself to some delicious pancakes with maple syrup or burgers etc, they are open all day and until about 2.30am.
We did not want to leave Dublin and wish we had the courage to be Shirley Valentine x 2
DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK THIS HOTEL, IT'S GREAT AND GETTING BETTER.

“A disappointment”

Arlington Hotel Temple Bar

2 of 5 stars
Lancashire
Jul 15, 2008

We were looking forward to staying in a good hotel for our first trip to Dublin. Rather than go for the cheapest available we opted for the more pricey Parliment Hotel(the name has changed to The Arlington which caused two of our party to arrive at the wrong hotel). On arrival there was obvious renovation work underway( bare plaster in reception, no bar or restaurant). To compensate for the lack of resources we received a complimentary bottle of wine and discount vouchers for the sister hotel(also the Arlington). A reduction in the overinflated rates would have been more appropriate. Breakfast was included and can only be described as mediocre, over cooked eggs and tasteless sausage! The staff were pleasant for the most part but communication was a major issue. We were unable to get a drink when arriving back at the hotel at night. A vending machine was available on the stairs but only dispensed items without a '5' in the selection code. Other reviews warn of some traffic noise in the bedrooms at the front of the hotel- if you're not planning to be comatose on retiring request a room at the back! Dublin was great and we will certainly return but not to this hotel

“Good value central hotel & getting better!!!!”

Arlington Hotel Temple Bar

Jun 20, 2008

This was my fifth visit to Dublin and I have usually stayed at the excellently located Arlington Hotel on O' Connell Bridge; the original Arlington Hotel, and by far the best, however, prices have become too steep lately so I had to find somewhere else.

I found this other Arlington Hotel in Dublin, which, as it turns out, is now owned by the owners of the original Arlington. Formerly The Parliament, it is right opposite to Dublin Castle and behind Temple Bar, so great location.

I stayed with my girlfriend for one night and paid £70 for a double room including breakfast.
The hotel-as stated previously-is undergoing some major rennovations, so good things are happening. The lady at reception who checked us in actually explained this to us and apologised for any inconvenience during our stay and informed us that a complimentary bottle of wine had been left in our room in addition to a voucher entitling us to 25% off dinner at the Arlington O'Connell, which was a nice gesture.

The room itself was of a good size, with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, so Im guessing that it was actually meant to be a triple room. It was clean, with a new tv set featuring mainly Irish channels.
There were tea and coffee making facilities but the kettle was old and dirty so we decided not to use it.

We could tell that the room was in need of refurbishing. For example, the bathroom door would not lock; the tap nearly came off in our hands; the shower was non-moveable and wasn't very powerful. But these were minor issues which did not spoil our enjoyment of the room.

Breakfast was a good selection of cereals, cold meats, pastries and hot irish breakfast buffet, and toast plus tea/coffee was brought to our table. I certainly couldn't fault it or the service.

So, to summarise, the hotel is under new management and deserves a chance. It's not luxury, but its very good value for money and it's in a good location. Staff are friendly, breakfast is good and plentiful, and rooms are clean and comfortable and with the changes taking place, things can only get better!

“Good central city hotel”

Arlington Hotel Temple Bar

Looking at previous reviews, I'd say this hotel has undergone a change of management as well as its name (formerly the Parliament Hotel). The bar and restaurant were both closed for refurbishment and it looks as though some serious work is being undertaken there.
It's central for Dublin and Temple Bar. As this is one of the most famous (?infamous) drinking areas in the world - expect some noise, or better still, just join in!
The rooms were OK - probably approaching the time for a re-furbishment, but perfectly clean and well appointed.
On the basis of previous reviews, I was going to skip breakfast there, but I'm glad I didn't. The food was well prepared, hot and plentiful, with everything from fruit, cereal and cold cuts, to the 'full Irish'. The service was attentive and polite - coffee cups were constantly topped up and fresh toast on tap.
I think we paid over the odds as it was a bank holiday weekend and there was a big concert in town, but I'd guess that it would normally be good value for money. I'd go back!

“Not bad”

Arlington Hotel Temple Bar

Apr 21, 2008

Beware. The hotel has been sold off and the sign removed from overhead the front door. It has been replaced by some bill boards at the side wall, and is now called the Arlington Temple Bar. For those on a meal/room deal the resturant is closed temporarily so it means a 10 walk to OConnell St to the main hotel for your meal. The best thing about the breakfast is the tea is hot, the staff indifferent and have to be prompted to make your tea/coffee and toast at breakfast time, in between texting and drinking their own tea! The breakfast meal is indescibably awful and when I was there the burners had extinguised and the food cold. The continental selection of fruit/cheese if fine (hint). Rooms are good but for those of you with street frontage good luck - its so noisy outside, with drunks and sirens on-going throughout the night, good luck in sleeping. For the summer months, with no air-conditioning, they have small fans in the room, but with the windows open..the noise will be awsome.
