“Over Rated! And Expensive!”

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

OK people its house inspector back again on my second hotel review. I will be covering 13 hotels around Ireland one every month. This month I decided to head for Kerry and after a lot of consideration and looking at reviews here I said we would hit the Aghadoe heights hotel situated around 4 miles from Killarney town center. On arrival you will see a grave yard and a building architecture for somewhere in hot Spain not rainy Ireland. This shabby looking eye sore screaming for a lick of paint is the 5 star Aghadoe hotel. I had booked a special offer weekend of two nights with a picnic, (consisted of a sandwich, bottle of water and two pieces of fruit hand back the basket and ground sheet or buy them for 45euro) Valet parking (never seen him over the whole weekend) Free in room films ( No DVD player nor was there a selection on channel 16 as told). The room consisted of a double bed and single bed (booked a double). Shabby carpet and wall paper. NO sign of the free standing bath in the en-suite. The standard lake room stay at the Aghadoe heights had fallen to 3 star and I was being generous. You pay for the views but not your surroundings here. I cant believe the reviews I have read from here it does not live up to what I expected. The spa is very nice but come on guys if your a guest you should have use of the thermal suite free! And you wont be missing a lot if you don't go to the thermal suite again over rated. NO atmosphere in any of the two bars, relaxing but gets boring. Staff are what you expect at 5 star very good. Lake view rooms, En-suite need a total overhaul, decking on the balcony is gone a slimy green and lawn needs re-sowing. No furniture on balcony not even an ash tray for the smokers. While we were both at the spa we had an unknown visitor in our room who ate pringles from the bar and left the wrapper at the t.v we paid for this snack on check out.
I did not see any AA rating displaying the 5 stars of this hotel just their own tired and weathered looking sign at the entrance. I cant comment on the suites accommodation here but if your staying standard don't be expecting whats advertised on their web site. very disappointing will come back next year to see the improvements. realy

“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

On arrival at reception we were told we had been upgraded to a Lakeview suite (we booked a Lakeview room) so from the outset we were impressed. We were shown to our room and told a little about the facilities in the hotel. Our suite was fabulous, large, great view, comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and very quiet (always my bugbear in hotels particularly in Ireland).

We went to the bar and had a sandwich, the food it very very expenisive but it's well presented and tasty. That night we had dinner in the restaurant which was very nice, we were given a pokey table and I asked to be moved, this wasn't a problem. The service was good throughout.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant too and is a wonderful display of everything you could want to eat. The service during breakfast is not as good as lunch and dinner though, but it's fine.

I had a facial at the spa and it was okay, it was 110 euro for a facial which lasted less than one hour. I didn't feel it was fantastic, the relaxation room was fine, my headphones didn't work and there was nothing to read so I didn't hang around. You have to pay 25 euro per day to use the spa facilities, I think this is a bit much when we paid in the region of 1000 euro for a weekend stay so that would be pretty much my only negative comment on the whole.

I would go again for sure and would recommend it to people looking to completely chill out and be looked after.

“5 Star indulgence with incredible views..”

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

4 of 5 stars
Dublin, Ireland

We each stayed in lakeside single rooms for just 3 nights, a short break. The views are simply magnificent over the lakes of Killarney, the hotel service is second to none, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It is a little expensive to eat and drink in the hotel but the hotel free shuttle brought us into Killarney whenever we wanted (about 4 miles/6 KM). Fabulous spa but again expensive but a very special pampering experience.

“Probably one of the most enjoyable hotels to stay in”

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

This hotel deserves all its stars and more if that were possible. Arriving with quite an international group of people, I had no real idea what to expect, except I had heard great reviews from friends whom I would call my five star Mollys. I don't know where to start but perhaps the staff managed by the wonderful ten star Marie Chawke were definitely the best I have come across and I travel all the time staying in what would be considered to be some of the best hotels around the world. Their kindness, attention to detail and general care of us was amazing and hugely appreciated by all. The food was excellent and catered for my gluten free needs with aplomb. I hate announcing that I need any special food as it makes me feel like a crank but they were so super, It never needed to be mentioned again over the weekend which is so rare. Previously my favourite hotels were the George V in Paris and the Ritz on Central park in New York. They have both been outranked by a hotel in kerry called the Aghadoe Heights for amazing staff, amazing views and a penthouse to move to Kerry for. We will most definitely return.

“Height of Luxury”

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa

A fabulous hotel by far. My girlfriend and I had been to Killarney 6 months previous and we had done all of the touristy things so this time we were back for a relaxing weekend. (That said, the hotel is only approx. 3 miles outside of the town centre so a taxi ride wouldn't be too expensive).

Briefly:
The reception was perfect - friendly, courteous and very helpful.
The room (standard room) was fantastic with a view straight onto the lakes. The bed was comfortable and a huge bath also.
Staff in general were very helpful.
The hotel itself was busy but everything was friendly, relaxed and quiet. It was nicely presented and always warm.
The restaurant catered for a more sophisticated tongue but were extremely accommodating if you required anything that was not on the menu e.g. chicken. Great view of the lakes from the restaurant also!
The gym and pool area seemed to be quite nice though I didn't go to the gym (you're there to relax!).
The spa, well what can I say: just go. I had a back massage and a male facial massage and my girlfriend had a leg and arm massage. Fantastic. A height of relaxation. Just go! I can't put words to it. If you are staying in this hotel you have to go to the spa!
Overall: a credit to all who work there and I will most certainly be back and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
