I've stayed at the Glenna House twice and would go back again. No it's not a 3-star hotel like in the U.S. but clean and comfortable. Each room has it's own ensuite bath and toilet which is spacious. My towels were replaced daily with fresh, clean towels in excellent condition. Every room has a selection of teas or coffee and hot water kettle, sugar, etc.
Their breakfast bar is excellent and in addition you get a choice from their menu.
I've always found the staff to be friendly and more than helpful. I don't understand people (Americans)who visit other countries then whine when things aren't like in the U.S.
I'm retiring to the area so if you want to whine just stay home.

My husband and I just left the Glena House this morning and I felt compelled to write a review. Although both the bedroom and the bathroom were large in European standards, the room still left much to be desired. The lighting was so poor that I had to put my contacts and makeup on in the car! As stated by other reviewers, the towels were thin and tatered, but warm on a towel warmer. The two beds in our room were complete opposites- the full was too hard to get comfortable in and the single bed sank to the floor. The staff was pleasant, although not too helpful. All in all, I probably wouldn't stay there again, given the many choices in Killarney, but I wasn't so unsatisfied that I would feel the need to cut my trip short.

First of all, some advice when reading these reviews. Some writers seem to allow their entire experience to be coloured by a single rude remark or a bit of mould on a wall... resulting in a totally distorted write-up. Yes, the staff can be a bit offhand and yes, there are some frayed edges here and there. But let's be honest. For the price it's a pretty good deal. The rooms are spacious, the location is great and things seem pretty clean and tidy. It's not the most fantastic B&B in the world but it's pretty good all in all so to those who have a reservation and fear the worst, don't worry!
Be advised that many of the staff struggle a bit with English, and watch out for the "nouvelle cuisine" sized breakfast (I ordered cheese on toast. A tiny square of toast arrived with beans in a separate pot about an inch in diameter. I laughed out loud. Don't know what they are trying to do here!?)

We stayed at Glena House, in Killarney on the night ofJune 18. Except for another couple, all the other guests were 13 - 15 year old girls, possibly 40 in all, with their chaperones. Let the screaming and door slamming begin!

The room had no towels and when I asked a young employee for some she said I'd have to wait until they were finished serving dinner to the girls. I asked, "Are you serious?" whereupon she raced down the hall to fetch some of the clean but rattiest towels imaginable. My friend "took the matter up with senior personnel" later that evening. When we got back from dinner, freshly-ironed towels were sitting in front of our room door. Definitely not four star.

Breakfast the next morning was delayed a half hour while the girls were fed.

The Glena was hard to find; none of the three people we asked seem to even know where Muckross Road was! There was no street number.
