Just returned from a weekend trip with friends from Scotts Hotel in Killarney. I booked this hotel in centre of Killarney as I knew it had been totally refurbished and wanted to try it out. I booked for three weekend nights and asked specifically for a balcony room overlooking the Malton Hotel street side. However, before we got there I received a call from Scotts telling me that the hotel was going to be closed on Sunday night of my stay and they would book me into a nearby hotel for the Sun night. I agreed to this.Upon check in, we were not allocated a balcony suite as the girl there said the suites were closed but we could move in the morning . My husband did not want any moving so he said forget it , just take what they had allocated.
We stayed in Room 402 on the fourth floor on the side nearest the church overlooking theparkling lot. The room itself was very presentable and spotless. However for me, it was way too noisy as some huge machine like an air conditioner started up at five in the morning, followed by church bell at eight. My husband mangaged to sleep through it all, so if you are a light sleeper, don't agree to a room on the church side as you won't get a good night sleep. My friends were across the corrider in 403 overlooking the courtyard and did not hear the same noise as I did.
The hotel itself is very modern and nice open plan with lobby, and dining room in one. The staff there were just wonderful and I cannot fault anything , they were v friendly and v honest.I asked the girl there when leaving if I could see the balcony suites as i told her where we stayed was v noisy. She showed me them and I will defintely try to book one on my next visit. She informed me that the reason we did not get one,was that the hotel only opens on a Fri and Sat during the spring months and if it gets busy they open the suites then.Guess they are trying to cut back on heating bills as all these rooms are on the same fourth floor.!!!
Now to the food. I have to say I have stayed in a lot of hotels in Killarney over the years, as we visited 2/3 times a year, and the food we ate in Scotts is the best hotel food I have ever had. The breakfasts are outstanding because they were cooked fresh to order and cooked absolutey perfect, We had one dinner included in our package but we loved it so much , we bought dinner there again on the second night . Everything was just lovely , and I still think about the Dutch apple cinnamon pie, it was scrumcious. The girls in the dining room and reception were only brillant and high praise for their friendliness, efficency and welcome manners.Well done to Staff of Scotts.
This hotel is right in the town, it is very reasonably priced and was great to visit with friends if you want a hotel with good food and a great residents bar. If you want a quiet hotel for rest or romance, maybe hotels out further around Muckross would be more suitable.
I would return to Scotts with friends or group for a good weekend away, as I loved the food, but I would have to get a quieter room as I like some sleep while away. If I was travelling just with my husband, I would probably opt for a quieter hotel as Scotts is quite a lively spot with a great atmosphere.Pefect option for those not wanting to drive, great food, good accomodation and a lively atmosphere.
