“A Great Place to Stay in Killarney!”

This fall we made our second trip to Ireland, and stayed for the second time at the Kingfisher Lodge. It is a lovely guest house in a great location. Easy to get to when driving in and out of Killarney, and only a short walk to the center of town. We especially appreciate the owners, Donal and Ann, who make you feel very welcome. They are extremely helpful in suggesting sites to visit and in making arrangements for activities in the many beautiful areas around the County of Kerry. The rooms in the Kingfisher are nice, and the hearty breakfast served each morning provides a good start for the day.

Kingfisher Lodge was recommended to us by owners of another B&B in Ireland as we travelled through Cork and Kerry and it was booked on our behalf. We extended our stay from one to 2 nights when we saw how good it was.

The room was fine but not large, it was clean and tidy and the bathroom was good. The owners Ann and Donal were very friendly and gave us lots of information about the area which we used to see the best of Killarney. We might have missed lots if we hadn't listened to Ann's advice. Nothing was too much trouble. I liked being able to use their garden to read quietly in the late afternoon. It was a very open and warm place to stay. Breakfast was in a pleasant room and beautifully freshly cooked. I had banana pancakes and maple syrup and my husband had the full Irish.

Ann suggested visiting Muckross House and the many beautiful areas surrounding the Killarney Lakes. Following the route she explained to us we visited Lady's View (not to be missed) and we also liked Ross Castle where there was a wedding party being photographed on the Saturday afternoon. (We were surprised to realize that we had seen the groom in the pub the night before !) No parking charges in any of the tourist places which we thought was great… It wouldn’t happen in the UK.

Situated on the flat and just a 3 minute walk from the main shops and restaurants (and pubs) in Killarney Kingfisher Lodge was a superb location to explore the heart of the town. It was also easy access to the main roads out of town. We ate at Ogden's the two nights we were there because it seemed the most reasonable place for good food but you can't get beer there only wine and soft drinks. There are loads of restaurants though and plenty of pub grub. Killarney was bursting at the seams with visitors from all over the world. The pavements could hardly manage everyone in the evening although it was a large town. Killarney is a good base to start a tour of the Ring of Kerry, especially if you like a bustling town and a good choice of nightlife in the evening

“Book the Kingfisher Lodge”

We just returned from 12 days in Ireland (our fourth trip) and want to sing the praises of the Kingfisher Lodge in Killarney. We had booked for two nights, but liked it so well that we extended our stay to three nights. Ann and Donal give a warm, genuine welcome, helpful with reservations, suggestions etc. The place is immaculate, nice large rooms, just perfect. And the location is so convenient to town, easy five minute walk. We enjoyed the breakfasts, great service and food! We definitely would stay there again.

No trip to Ireland would be complete without visiting Killarney. Our friends in Shannon recommended the Kingfisher Lodge and it couldn't have worked out better. The Kingfisher Lodge in my opinion sets a supreme standard; by far the best guesthouse I've ever stayed in my 5 trips to Ireland. Donal and Ann were wonderful; Donal actually booked all of our excursions for us so that we didn't have to worry. In the morning after breakfast the tour bus arrived at our doorstep as Donal had arranged. The rooms are quite large with plenty of storage space if you're there for a few days; trust me you'll not want to leave. The Kingfisher Lodge is 2-3 minute walk to main street but far enough away that we never heard traffic which allowed for some very nice evenings of sleep to recover from all of our excursions. Something else to consider and this is important if you've hired a car; Donal and Ann really do have off-street parking at least enough for 8 cars is my guess. Some other B&B's I've stayed at have a single parking spot and then parking can be an issue but you'll not have that concern at Kingfisher Lodge. What more can I say, very nice hosts, nice-spacious rooms (en suite), tea/coffee in room, TV (not that you'll need it but it's there), and a beautiful National Park a 10 minute walk away, and did I mention a delicious breakfast spread that will ensure you're stuffed, energized, and ready to explore what is Killarney. Don't pass this place up partner.
Kind regards,
TexasBoy
