We stayed at the Cedar Court for two nights after getting what we thought would be a decent hotel at a lot less than the usual full asking price pp/pn.
First impressions were good. It is a grand building from the outside with a large and free car park, the entrance area and bar etc were all clean and tidy. Check in was swift and efficient.
Upon reaching our room I was suitably impressed as it seemed to have been recently renovated and was large, fresh and clean looking with a black marble effect bathroom. There was an OK view to the front of the hotel and no noise from any traffic.
Unlike some other reviews I've read i found the walk in to town no problem. Done correctly it is a straight road in and took us 10 minutes walking. Maps were available upon request at reception.
Where the hotel lets itself down is on room service and quality of food. We looked at the menu for the Brasserie and were not impressed - choosing instead to go in town for a Pizza (yes that's how unappetizing it was). We ordered room service later that night and were given a bottle of wine that had already been opened and with some already out of it, 2 rounds of the most pathetic sandwiches I've ever seen served on one plate with a measly portion of salad and hand cooked chips between two(the side orders were obviously for one person and even then not enough)
On our final morning we, as we always do when away, ordered breakfast in our room and duly placed our order card outside at 11 pm. The next morning I went out to the car and noted that it had not been collected and neither had any others on our floor. The front desk got it sorted quickly but we ended up eating a lot later than planned.
In a nutshell - as a place to put your head down, cant complain - service and food needs some attention. You could do a lot worse than this in Harrogate.
