Tours was our last stop in France after Paris, Honfleur, Bayeux and Le Mont St Michel, and this hotel was our favorite among the ones in which we stayed. The range of rates for all hotels was from ~100 Euros/night (this hotel) to 190 Euros/night (Paris).
ROOM: Clean, well maintained with air conditioning. It seems that it underwent a refurbishing since bathroom hardware, flatscreen TV and other appointments seemed to be new.
BATH: Also clean and well maintained (but the combination wall heater/towel warmer was inoperative). There was a large, enclosed stand-up shower. You can splash and the water won't splatter and spray onto the floor (our other hotels had a shower wand but no door or shower curtain).
BREAKFAST: Buffet style and included in our package. Priced reasonably, the variety of items compared favorably with the other hotels that provided the same style breakfast. We noted that tables were set for a large tour group, so get down to the breakfast early or check with the hotel to see if you will be competing for ample portions of food with groups in the morning.
LOCATION: The street of the hotel is away from busy intersections so the room was quiet. It is within walking distance of downtown and "Le Vieux Tours" (the old part of the city) and "Place Plumereau" where you'll find shops, restuarants and a lively atmosphere in the evening. We ate dinners in this area during our stay. The hotel staff recommended restaurants in a quieter and less kept up part of the city. They were in the opposite direction of the busy square, and, not so coincidentally, restaurants they suggested were ones that advertised in the free street map provided by the hotel.
PARKING: Limited and extra (10 Euros/night). Reserve in advance because of a limited number of stalls.
STAFF: A trainee was on morning duty during our stay, and she made us feel just as welcome as the experienced staff, but, as you would guess, they were more helpful in answering questions and providing accurate information than the rookie.
SUMMARY: Our stay in Tours was very pleasant and we enjoyed the comfort of the Central Hotel -- especially since it was the last hotel in which we stayed before returning home. We were able to rest well prior to our departure. From our hotel, it was short taxi ride to the St Pierre des Corps railway station where we boarded a TGV train for a fast 2 hour ride direct to Charles de Gaulle Airport.
