“Didn't care for the room”

My mother and I stayed at this Holiday Inn in Tours for one night (7/23/07) as a part of a two-week long guided tour of France.

While the lobby and restaurant area of this hotel seemed to be nice, bright, and clean, we didn't care too much for our actual room. There was some funky stuff coming out of the ceiling by the door and mold in the cracks of the tile in the shower. The room was also a little dark. They had a nice bar area, but didn't hire anyone to work it, and although you could call someone to come and make you a drink, they closed it down entirely by 11:00pm!

The hotel is, however, in a convenient location. You can walk to a nice shopping/restaurant area and to see an old cathedral.

While we had no great expectations of this property, other than it being centrally located, it was still a disappointment in virtually every aspect. For "central location" read "behind the train station." Light sleepers beware. My "executive" room was dark and small, the safe didn't work, and it was only when I got in bed the first night that I heard the loud buzzing of a fuse box in the closet. The receptionists were perfectly pleasant and I moved rooms the following morning but wondered why they hadn't offered me that one in the first place. At breakfast the buffet looked okay but the ham was actually on the turn! Room service was jaded at best and we actually cut short our stay by one night. Internet access was outrageous - find a net cafe in town!

I knew it wouldn't be the Four Seasons but I thought it was bad even by Holiday Inn standards.

“Good location, great servive”

This is a clean and comfortable hotel next to the main train station.
The location is great, especially for business travelers or if you have a meeting in the Vinci Congress Centre. The room was cleaner and
more up to date than most European 3-star properties and there was a small but functional exercise room (ask for the key when you check in).

Breakfast was good but on the expensive side. There is an additional (excessive) charge for Internet access. This is typical for European hotels and the pricing is similar, but I am struck by how providing convenient and inexpensive or free internet access could be a strong marketing advantage for these hotels.

I was most impressed by the customer service orientation of the staff. From personal experience, this can be spotty, especially in France, ranging from fantastic to arrogantly dismissive. I had some special needs coming and going and the front desk staff was willing and eager to help. Five stars here in my book and for this reason alone I would strongly recommend this property to travelers.

“Grey!”

The hotel is located in Tours centre, right alongside the main train station.

The hotel was easy to find as a result of advertisements on the approach to Tours. There is a hotel carpark underneath the hotel itself.

The hotel was to the standard you woudl expect for a Holiday Inn. The room was small but comfortable, and had a desk area should you require it.

The decor in the room was somewhat drab, with everything being based around a theme of grey.

The landing area outside the room had ripped paper which lowered the standard of the hotel.

Two bulbs were blow in the room which added to the grey theme, but overall the hotel served its purpose as a base from which we could explore Tours.

“convenient and reasonable value”

Holiday Inn Tours City Centre

This hotel was booked through the Holiday Inn reservations site, but our request for a double was not recorded and we were booked into a twin room. Our room on the 3rd floor was a reasonable size with a comfortable double bed with a doona. Although overlooking the main train station, the room was quiet. The hotel is convenient for the Tourist Office and the take-off point for chateau tours. Negatives were the doona was too hot and the only available substitute was one single bed blanket; CNN was the only English language channel; and breakfast was reasonable but did not offer the range expected from a hotel of this type. Overall, reasonable value for money.
