This absolutely the best hot chocolate in the world is found at Angelina! Don't bother with their lunch menu. Their salads and and sandwiches are mediocre at best. But that hot chocolate is formidable!

Have just come back from Paris. Went to Angelina as it was around the corner from where we were staying and the hot chocolate had rave reviews in my guide book. And yes, the chocolat chaud was good, but I won't be going there again. Of course, Angelina won't be crying about that as it looked packed in the evening (so we went about 10am). But the service was terrible...contemptuous even (possibly as a result of it being popular). As I had observed on other tables, a waitress/waiter came to collect money at one's table. We waited 15-odd minutes for this to happen...and were giving out suitable signals, despite which, we were completely ignored by various staff. In the end, husband had to march up to the cake counter, thrust a 20 euro note at someone and boom 'J'attend quinze minutes'! (OK pedants, wrong tense, but he was a desperate man). We could have actually walked out without anyone noticing, but that's not our way. Alas, tbe chocolate is just not worth the bother.

If you are staying at any of the expensive hotels on the Rue du Rivoli - the Meurice, Westin, or Brighton. Do yourself a favor and skip the overpriced mediocre room service breakfast for the best hot chocolate in the world and wonderful pastries just down the street. Even if you aren't staying in the neighborhood, splurge for the hot chocolate. You won't be disappointed.

I studied in Paris for a semester and discovered Angelina's on the recommendations of my roommates who had lived there for quite a few years...and while yes, sometimes there are long lines to get in, it is absolutely heavenly. You must order the African hot chocolate! Order a dessert too, but nothing chocolate. I did that the first time thinking I was the absolute biggest chocolate lover and could handle it, but it was totally a chocolate overdoes! So yes, highly recommended! oh, and very convenient location, right off the Tuilleries metro along Rue de Rivoli
