“Nice funky little hotel”

We stayed at the Duminy Vendome in 2003. I just discovered this website, so I am trying to put reviews of past hotel stays since I think that this site is great. This is a nice little funky hotel – it seems a bit more like a Parisian apartment building than a hotel per se, which is actually a cool feeling. Breakfast was pretty nice – though funky – eating in basement/cellar and may not be so sunlite but cozy with fellow travelers. We had a room on the top floor and it was a cool little loft-like feel - - with angled ceiling. There was plenty of light. Yes, it was small - - like I said felt like Parisian apartment – but it was cool, cozy, and seemed more interesting stay than at a sterile hotel room that does not change country to country. Location is also very central and very well-located for travelers (including a Metro station very near).

“Positively Lacking!”

We travel quite often and all over the world. We visited Trip Advisor and seeing that there were mostly positive reviews about the location etc of this hotel, we decided to let our travel agent book for us, as our trip was covering 14 days and several countries.

We arrived in Paris to find the receptionist (and I use the term loosely) sitting there talking on the phone. Ignoring us in the way that only the French do so well, we waited. Having made our reservations months before, and confirming them again 2 days prior, we expected no problems.

The hotel itself is located in good position. The T. gardens are a quick walk away. There's an Irish pub just down the street and a market about a block away. The hotel lobby is small and crowded, the elevator is quite frankly a joke. You can only fit 2 persons with luggage and it's excrutiatingly slow..Better to take the stairs, however...that being said, taking the stairs is a feat unto itself...Better hold the rails and go slowly..

The "lounge" reminded me of what a house of ill repute might look like....The red color, the fringy lampshades...very tacky and definitely not my cup of tea.

Still waiting on reception, we decided to head down the stairs to where the breakfast area was. Definitely not quaint as described by some, but more like the basement with old furniture and tacky wall coverings nailed into the wall to cover up who knows what.
Breakfast itself was adequate. There was ample food, so lots of choices, but somehow not an "experience" I would say was enjoyable. It's not as if you'd want to linger other than to eat.

Finally! Receptionist deems to help us. Gives our room keys. My husband asks politely....."the children are in adjoining rooms as requested? No..."Are they across the hall?" Very close.....No! 10 doors between us around the corner and their room was right across from the lift. We were absolutely floored to walk in their tiny little room with 1 double bed that was so smoky that you needed a gas mask to survive. It was almost as if someone was standing there smoking...heard us put a key in and promptly slipped out the window....

I went down and basically said that this situation was not acceptable to us....to which she replied...."so sorry." "Nothing to be done."...I asked for a manager...She replied that it wouldn't matter. That was that.

THAT ruined our experience there. I would NEVER go back. NO customer service, small rooms, horrible staff. Just not worth the money. There was a Renaissance Suites directly across the street. We went in and NEXT time that is where we will stay!

“great small hotel”

We( my son and his wife and a friend and I) just returned from a trip to France. It was my first stay in a Paris' hotel, since I usually stay with my family. The hotel has small rooms compared with the american standard, but you are only there to sleep. The bathrooms were adequate also I did not like the pink marble. The towels were soft. While we were there, they were doing the air condition with a lot of workers around and open ceilings on most floors. The staff is friendly but I never ask any questions about Paris or to make reservations. The breakfast was not the ordinary french bread and cafe-au-lait. It was more elaborate with french cheeses, cold cuts, differents breads, yogurts, eggs, sausages. The situation of the hotel is ideal, in the middle of Paris, a walking distance from two bus terminals, great for touring Paris or France. You can walk almost eveywhere from the hotel: Louvre, Grand Palais, Note Dame, river Seine, Rue Rivoli. Although the weather was not warm and rainy most days our stay was great. I recommend the hotel warmly.

We stayed recently at the Duminy Vendome hotel in Paris . We enjoyed the spacious room and service . Also, the hotel has a great location - near the Tuileiries gardens, the Louvre and the Place de La Concorde.

“Lovely Hotel”

I really loved this hotel - we did have a newly renovated room which has been done in chocolate colours and seems quite "French". Our room was very big by French standards with 2 casement windows which opened onto a lovely steet vista. I didn't find it noisy and by goodness, its Paris !
I found the front desk staff fine although they are typically reserved. No gushing service but the lass on the desk helped us store our luggage for the day when we were leaving and organised us a taxi.
THe only thing that was negative for me is the lift. Its tiny and really only you and your suitcases can fit in. There were 4 people from our group in it one day (no luggage) and it stopped - maybe it was too heavy but it wasn't very nice for them although staff of course ensured there rescue quiet promptly.
As for location..excellent. A walk to Place Vendome, the Ritz, the Louvre, glitzy shops, Angelina for hot chocolate to die for (do not miss this) and to Concorde metro. I would stay here again as the price is excellent for what you get in terms of location, room size and room quality.
