As with every hotel there are positive and negative points.
I have given the hotel a neutral rating.
The positive:
- The hotel is clean and tidy
- The staff were correct (not overly friendly but not impolite either, quite neutral)
- The location is very good, not in the heart of the Latin Quarter but also not that far away, by foot it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the center of the 5th district which is very nice and a great way to discover beautiful side streets
- The rooms are air-conditioned
- Wireless internet access is available in the rooms (either through the hotel or through the mobile operator Orange, in both cases you have to buy credits, I found the offer by Orange to be better than that by the hotel. For example the hotel offered some 5 hours for €15, I bought 10 hours through Orange for the same price, you can do this online)
- It has a small elevator which will fit no more than two people
- Once you have checked out the hotel will keep your luggage for you if you have a late flight and would still like to see the city
- The metro (subway) station is 1 minutes walk away
The negative:
- On the hotel website the rooms appear to be larger
- Also on the website of the hotel you are only shown the renovated areas/rooms of the hotel, some rooms such as the one we stayed in appeared not to have been renovated (but the room was clean and tidy, furniture was in great shape, nothing was broken, dirty or scratched. The wallpaper showed some signs of age and the bed was a little on the hard side)
- The safe box in the room is quite small, it will not hold a 17 inch laptop for example)
- If you have a room on the main road, expect some traffic noise, although the windows will shut out most of the sounds quite well
We opted not to have any meals at the hotel so I cannot comment on the quality of the food.
The hotel offers its own taxi service which can take you to the airport, but it is quite expensive €50. We took a shuttle which charged €17 per person. A word of advice, if you book a taxi or shuttle at around 6pm know that this is the rush hour in Paris and you will need at least an hour just to get out of the city and on to the highway to get to the airport, so the earlier you book your taxi or shuttle the better.
Overall the Hotel Devillas was not bad for the price and location. It is a relatively cheap priced hotel and so you should not expect too much. It is a good hotel for tourists and visitors who will not be spending much time in the hotel other than to sleep. We spent the entire day each day in the city and only came to the hotel at night to sleep, so for us the hotel itself was not important other than the fact that it was clean, safe and tidy.
