I stayed with my boyfriend for two days Monday to Wednesday. The location was excellent, surrounded by lots of restaurants and bars in Place St Lazare. Really close to a main train station (twenty minutes from Gare du Nord on train) and was only two stops on the metro from Place de la Concorde. It was also only a five minute walk from Galerie Lafayette, a store similar to selfridges. The room was lovely not as small as some of the other reviews had me expecting, really big bed and really good shower.
The people who worked in the hotel were really good to us, recommending where Christmas markets were (La Defense)and where we could find a nice restaurant (Brasserie Moulard on Place St Lazazre is excellent), even lending us a bottle opener. The room was cleaned every day and the hotel toiletries are lovely. Our room was on the first floor and although overlooking the street we were not woken up by the noise.
Overall the hotel helped contribute to what was an amazing few days and I would definately reccomend it to others. Enjoy!!

“Nice, modern, clean, friendly hotel”

Villathena

My boyfriend & I have just returned from a short-break in Paris staying in the Villathena for 3 nights, I was pleased that we booked here. I had done some research before booking & was a little nervous beforehand due to some of the reviews, however I was pleasantly suprised by Villathena.
The rooms are fairly small (but that's exactly what one should expect in paris unless willing to fork a fortune!! But how much time do you want to spend in your rooms in Paris?!) and they are clean, (a maid visits everyday) as well as a modern design. It is a small quirky hotel with the basic essentials- tv, hairdryer, air conditioning, shower gel etc. & we found the staff very friendly & although we spoke reasonable french they spoke good english. It has a fab location with the metro station literally a minutes walk away from the hotel & restaurants and bars of v. short walking distance. It is also not to far away from Gare du Nord as we arrived by eurostar.

However there were a few teething problems when we arrived, our room was looking over the road beside & on our first night v.early in the morning there was road works were going on for hours which were extremely loud! We were prepared for noise as it is in the centre of paris & that is what you should expect but not to that extent! The next day we asked if there was any possibility of moving to a quieter room & they moved us immediately & said they would move all our stuff for us, it was v.efficient. The second room we had a slightly bigger which was good! & was not looking over the road so was a lot quieter so we were pleased with this & slept better. Just to warn you there are roadworks around this hotel currently, I heard some other guest also complaining about the noise, so might be worth bearing in mind if you like to sleep in past 6.30 in the morning!!
I would agree with some of the other reviews breakfast is reasonable however it is worth venturing outside to cafe's which are around the hotel which are much cheaper, I thought the breakfast in the hotel was overpriced.

Overall we had a lovely stay in paris, reasonably priced and the service v.friendly & efficient I would recommend this hotel for a short break in paris for couples, if you are interested in sight seeing and being in a central location.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Agree with a lot of the other comments. Rooms are small, bed is huge (& hard!), bed linen clean & warm. No double glazing, so street noises are easily heard even though it's a small side street. Revving motor scooter riders are particularly common at 4am! Female receptionist is friendly & helpful & speaks good English.

Didn't bother with breakfast at hotel after reading other reviews. There are numerous cafes within 200m where breakfast can be obtained for a few euros.

L'Opentop bus tours are worth doing - approx £20 for a 2 day pass.

You won't get drunk on beer in Paris bars - half a litre of 1664 costs from €7 - €12 depending on where you go. Stick to vin!

“insomia was born here”

Villathena

Sep 11, 2007

On arrival at Villaathena our first impression was nice design but disorganised chaos, our room wasn't ready at 2 pm. We were eventually shown to our room which unusually was on the ground floor opposite reception. My first instinct was to ask for an alternative as it was clearly going to be noisy, this request was refused by staff who lied to me and told me the room was quiet. The room was far from quiet, we could hear everything in reception, phones, bells, footsteps, laundry men at 4 am hammering at the headboard. When we complained they told us this only happened once a week.

In fact we didn't sleep a wink and this ruined our entire visit to Paris. The staff did eventually move us in the second night but spoke to us as though they were doing us a great favour. I tried to sleep during the following day but was disturbed by a maid a building site opposite and roadworks outside. I did sleep well in the second room but was woken at 7 am by builders and traffic. As I was leaving at 10 am the next day my visit was already ruined.

I tried to negotiate a discount on my first night in the hotel but the manager wasn't even prepared to offer me half price for super sub standard accomadation. The receptionist was very nice however and told me they had many many problems with noise on the ground floor i know he felt the manager was being tight by giving us a really poor discount. Other problems incuded shoddy fittings, badly draining wet rooms and bath, no lock on toilet door. Only use this hotel if you are an insomniac.

“A well decorated property in a calm street”

Villathena

4 of 5 stars
Stuttgart, Germany
Aug 6, 2007

Once again, just returned late yesterday from a weekend stay in Paris, with my eight year old son.
No problem to reach the hotel by public transport. We´re arrived
at Orly, by the Orlyval train to RER B Anthony station, further to
Magenta station to change for RER E, final destination Gare
Lazare/Haussmann, not more than five minutes to walk along the noisy Rue Amsterdam to the calm Rue Athenes.
Paris visite, two days adult 27,15 EUR, child 13,55 EUR.
No problem to check in, 11.00 am, the room was waiting for us.
The guy at check in was real friendly.
We had a room on the first floor, classic high ceiling, the room itself small, but with a large comfortable bed, well minimalistic designed, wooden floor.
The bathroom was also a small one, shower only, but well designed and ok for us for the one-night stay.
Typical not to much city noise from the Rue Athenes at night, we had a good sleep there.
Check out at 11.00 am the next morning, again the friendly guy there, no problem to store our bags till the afternoon.
The only negative thing to point out was the breakfast fare,
EUR 17.-- per person, also for my son. All the other hotels from out latest travels charged me for breakfast, free breakfast for my son,
not this time. So we declined and had breakfast around the corner at Starbucks, ok so far.
Paris is a real expensive place to be, from my point of checking the different reservation systems, EUR 110.-- for this stay was absolutely ok.
