“Basic - but very clean”

Just come back from 4 nights at the acanthe du temple hotel in nimes. The room was very basic but very clean.
The position was the best thing about it. Walk round the corner and you are in the main shopping street. Can't comment on breakfast as we walked round the corner to Chez Sylvie (a small friendly cafe)
Caught the bus from the airport and it stopped outside Station then made several stops in town. Caught a train twice - once to Avignon and next day to Montpelier - both destinations took about 30 minutes.
We found that it was best to eat early afternoon as at night the restaurants tend to be a bit expensive. At lunchtime a lot do specials with a plat du jour. We had a 3 course meal with a glass of wine and coffee for about 30 euros for the two of us.
On the whole this was a lovely break and providing you watch where you eat it won't break the bank.

“A great hotel in a great city”

Location of Hotel is excellent, right in the centre. We didn't do breakfast as there were plenty of little street cafes to eat at. The value of this hotel was fantastic. We had two twin rooms which turned out to be twin double rooms with lots of space. Rooms were basic but clean and staff were very helpful and not afraid to help with our basic french.
We booked online directly with the hotel and had no problems contacting them via email, they responded very promtly and were only to keen to help.
Ok so its not the Ritz but I'd rather stay somewhee with a bit of personality rather than a faceless hotel, and this place had lots of personality.
A great hotel in a great city.

“Wonderful hotel”

This hotel is in a great location, near the city's market and in easy walking distance of the Arena, the Roman temple, and many other sites. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating - both online and in person. Our room was a fine size, very comfortable and charming, with wood ceiling beams. The price is a real value. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

“Basic hotel”

The hotel is 15 mins walk from the airport bus stop and 20 mins from the station. Be sure to check your bus time back to the airport, as they fit in with flights.

As a previous reviewer said, the hotel was not sharp on responding to an email. I telephoned a few days later to gee them up.

Hotel is basic, I found the walls quite thin and the shower slow to heat up. The room, though clean, was a bit drab. These things were quite irritating, but I was in Nimes for a purpose, not to hang around hotel. Information desk's advice on restaurants, shops etc. was really awful. They sent me to a depressing restaurant, and one around the corner that looked like it had been closed for a year! There is a nice square, du Chateau, behind the hotel, with restaurants, also restaurants all around Nimes. Near the Arenes, the Restaurant des Artistes is good.

I would check out other hotels in Nimes, were I to return. The Acanthe is ok, but I've stayed in nicer rooms for the money. I never had breakfast, but I'm sure it is good.

“ideal accomodation”

Acanthe du Temple Hotel

Hotel is located close to sights, shops, restaurants and about 10 minutes walk to train and bus station. There was no noise on a night.
Hotel has been recently tastefully refurbished whilst still retaining French decor.
We stayed 5 nights and had a lovely room with a balcony - I think this was the only room with a balcony (no. 19 if you can get it). The room itself was not large, but adequate - very clean and furniture was in the old French style.
We thought it was good value at 50 euros per night and breakfeast at 7 euros each. Breakfast was not self-service, but brought to your table consisting of fruit juice, yoghurt, cheese, variety of breads and jams, tea or coffee. Adequate and you could always have more, but we were always full.
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and found the staff very friendly and helpful. After staying in Nimes we went for 4 nights to Arles and returned early to Nimes to get the shuttle bus to the airport and found there is no left luggage facility at the station. Rather than dragging our luggage around Nimes for 4 hours we went back to the hotel and there was no problem in leaving our cases there.
