“Second time round and still good”

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire

Aug 4, 2008

This was a return visit to La Tour Apollinaire.
Whereas last time, we stayed in the tower apartment, this time it was in the "Bourgogne" apartment which consists of a huge and beautifully antique-furnished sitting room and modern kitchen (both shared with one other apartment) and a large bedroom with four-poster and spacious bathroom.
The old saying states that you should never go back ... but this return visit was just as stress-free and luxurious as our previous one and, frankly, I'd go again and again.
This time, the weather was such that we could make use of the pool and we spent one lovely quiet day just relaxing in the large private gardens.
Anyway, to keep this report as brief as possible, nothing has changed, La Tour Apollinaire is still as good as it was last time.

“Beautiful and relaxing getaway!”

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire

Aug 3, 2008

We stayed at the Chateau for a week in July, recovering from a music festival in Spain, and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

We cannot fault the accommodation as well as the surrounding gardens and helpful staff. The apartment we stayed in was extremely well designed and had all modern fittings. We especially loved the rain shower in our bathroom!
Our room was beautifully decorated, with many small and unique touches throughout. We also appreciated the must needed luxury of a great air conditioner.

We did spend most of our time relaxing by the beautiful pool and enjoying the well kept gardens, even having the pool to ourselves on a few occasions.

The town centre is a short walk from the Chateau, but no more than 10 minutes (in heels as well!). There is a vast choice of restaurants covering all different food genres, as well as prices.

All in all we had a truly relaxing stay, and will most definitely be returning. A definite must stay for the South of France.

“What a fantastic place!”

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire

Aug 1, 2008

We have just come back from a 10-day tour of Perpignan and Carcassonne, and we stayed in total 7 nights at La Tour Appolinaire. We stayed in the Chablis room and then the Tour itself. The whole place is fantastic!! We had booked it as a special treat for our 20th Wedding Anniversary, and it lived up to its reputation, and more. Firstly, the way the Chateau has been restored is extremely tasteful, and mixes original features with very modern fittings (such as high spec bathrooms and kitchens) in a very clever way. The Chablis room, which was the former chapel to the Chateau, is really nice and restful, and the Tour Apartment is beautiful. Although the Chablis has shared kitchen / living room, this was not a problem as the couple we shared this with were great, and I don't think that privacy is compromised at all. The tour apartment is self-contained, so if you definitely want privacy, then book that.

The gardens and swimming pool are well maintained, peaceful, and have a very private feel. There are comments on other reviews that the Chateau is in a run down area, but you have to remember that Perpignan is a normal French town, not plastic like some tourist traps, and it just felt 'real' to us. We at no time felt threatened at all, and it certainly felt much better than being in most parts of the UK!! We walked into town and back at least once each day, and it is an easy 10 minute walk. The town itself is fascinating, and has some great places to eat - try Lorenzo's if you want a really good meal!

The best part of the Chateau however is the welcome we received from the staff there. The reception staff, Chelsea and Dee, were absolutely superb, and nothing was too much trouble for them. On our 20th Anniversary our Daughters had arranged with Chelsea for us to have a bottle of Champagne delivered to our room, and the owners Robin and Elena added a bottle of their favourite wine to this on the house. This was a really kind gesture, and shows an example of the welcome you will receive. They were also very helpful with restaurant recommendations, and working out directions for us. So helpful!

We would recommend the Appolinaire to anyone who is looking for an Oasis of peace and quiet but within easy distance of a vibrant French Town.

“Home From Home”

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire

Jul 24, 2008

We have stayed here on several occasions this year and would highly recommend others to do so!

The hotel is peaceful, with beautiful gardens and a clean, inviting pool area. We stayed in individually designed, tasteful and comfortable rooms, all with personal touches which enhanced the stay.

Breakfast is delicious, varied and served at the time you require it.

Elena and Robin are excellent proprietors - they afford a warm welcome and are very friendly to approach if you need anything. We have stayed at other hotels in the area prior to this one but would always choose to stay here above the rest. Looking forward to our next visit!

Alison and Stuart.

“Noisy floors spoiled our stay in Chateau La Tour Appollinaire”

Chateau La Tour Apollinaire

This hotel has an unacceptable noise problem. The floorboards in the room above ours creaked loudly with every movement and people could be heard moving about all the time- which was excruciating as they were wearing mules and were up till the wee small hours, then clip-clopping again at 7am. This spoiled what would otherwise have been an enjoyable stay, as we were exhausted the day after this nocturnal torture. We did not complain as we could envisage no immediate solution, but can't understand why the owners do not deal with this obvious problem. The hotel is nicely decorated, the garden and pool are delightful and the receptionist was extremely helpful. The computer is very very slow and the sound system and screen size for the dvd player made it unusable, but these are minor blips. Because of the potential noise we wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone else.
