“Friendly, convenient stop-over for Toulouse”

Raymond IV Grand Hotel

Aug 21, 2008

I stayed here on a short family trip to Toulouse and this was a very pleasant place to stay.

It was extremely convenient: The airport shuttle bus stop (Jeanne d'Arc) is at the end of the street. The hotel itself is well situated for the city centre, a short walk to the hustle and bustle (or tourist attractions such as the basilica or cathedral), but far enough away to be quiet at night time. The main train station for Toulouse is at the other end of the street. Close by are plenty of restaurants (try L'entrecote for good steak), cafes, bakeries (or a supermarket (Lidl) if you prefer to do your shopping in one place).

The rooms are basic but comfortable. Equipped with minibar, en suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV. A clear omission of no tea or coffee making facilities, so pack your travel kettle if you're a tea addict. Parking facilities are available for a small daily fee, and it's in an underground garage that is locked overnight. Free wifi was available throughout.

The staff are excellent. Friendly, and did their utmost to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The reception staff speak good English are patient with poor French. They were happy to swap the double room for the requested twin room. Continental breakfast is available, but I did not try it.

Overall, it was a lovely place to stay, very convenient. Would thoroughly recommend it to prospective tourists to Toulouse.

“Worst hotel in my life”

Raymond IV Grand Hotel

Nov 25, 2007

It is probably the worst hotel I've ever been to !
The rooms are dirty, stains everywhere on the carpet, the bathroom is barely clean and I'm not talking about the odors...
You can here what is going on next door clear and loud.
And the price is outrageous for what this hotel is.

Don't go there for any reason !

“It says 3 stars but feels like two”

We were very disappointed with this hotel. It was expensive 95 euros for a tiny double room. There was no ventilation in the room, or the adjoining bathroom(which had no door). The bathroom light was operated by a sensor which meant it kept switching on and off at inappropriate moments. Having said that, the bathroom area was new and clean but basically the room should have been a single, not a double room. Poor value for money. Although shabby in parts, on the plus side the location of the hotel was convenient and it did have a garage.

“Ok but not great...”

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April, after getting a good deal through Expedia. Our room didn't quite match the photos on the website, which showed quite basic accommodation and given the price, this was what we were expecting. But, the room was run down and in need of extensive refurbishment, and although the lobby & ground floor looked modern and well kept, the corridors to the rooms on our floor were shabby as well... and we were expecting basic accommodation! I'm not sure if they are refurbishing the whole hotel (we didn't notice any workmen) but that might explain the contrast between the different parts of the building.

Also, I'm not sure if this is a specifically French thing (but we didn't have this problem when we stayed in Paris) but the toilet was completely separate from the 'shower' room. So after nipping to the loo, you went through the toilet door separating it from the main room, then through that room door to the hall and then through another door to the 'shower' room to wash your hands! Not very convenient if you need to go in the middle of the night and don't want to wake anyone by putting the light on.

The bedding and bathroom were clean but the whole delapidated feel did put us off somewhat. On the plus side, the staff were friendly but as we didn't pay extra for the breakfast, we didn't have much to do with them beyond checking in & out. Also, friends who we were visiting said the hotel wasn't in a very good part of Toulouse, but we never had any problems and it is only about 5 mins walk to the shops etc. Toulouse is a lovely place to visit but I would only recommend this hotel if you are on a very tight budget and want to be close to the centre.
