“Nice hotel, scary neighbourhood”

Hotel d'Orsay

I was very happy that this hotel had A/C. It took me about 40 mins to find the hotel after getting off the shuttle from the Airport. It wasn't as close to the main centre as I was hoping, and the walk to and from was a bit sketchy. I think the neighbourhood wasn't the best, but for what you pay its a decent place. The room was clean and comfortable. At night, there is a drag queen on the corner of the street. I was a bit shocked about that. Also, the courtyard wasn't that grand. There was no where to sit but the ground and the grass was long and unkept. It was full of weeds. But for the price it was decent.

When travelling in France, I tried to stay in rooms costing about 40 Euros a night, so with that price range in mind, the Hotel d'Orsay in Toulouse is the best hotel I've stayed at in France. It was also a great value as the room was excellent and the price less than much inferior hotels. It was extremely clean, something astonishing if you're familiar with French hotels of this price range. The room was very spacious, the bathroom had a bidet and bathtub, and the hotel has an elevator. It is located just across the street from the train station, so you won't have to drag your bags about or hire a taxi. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly.

“Excellent staff”

Hotel is close to the station, parking is round the block so a bit tricky but the manager explained how to get there. Once parked we didn't use the car till we left town. The hotel was fine but could do with a little upgrading. The staff were very helpful and friendly which was nice. We walked back to the hotel different ways and there were a couple of streets which were a bit seedy so we avoided them and took the main roads. Good location, a pleasant walk into the old town. Free wi-fi in lobby.
Overall a good experience.

“Excellent Hotel for the Price”

Very clean hotel and convenient to the train station. It is a short walk to the city center and lots of places to eat nearby. There were some homeless congregating out front across the street but I did not find it an unsafe area to stay. The bathroom was clean and fairly spacious - it actually has a bidet along with a separate little room for the toilet. It had a hair dryer. There was an air conditioner and TV that worked. The room had separate beds. A bit more expensive room in the back looked out over a nice courtyard area. The room facing the canal also faces the road - with the window open it is loud but when the double panes are closed it is very quiet. The breakfast room was nice but I did not get breakfast when I was there. The staff was very friendly. There was a working elevator (lift). I made reservations at booking.com - no problems.

“Nice enough but basic”

Hotel D'Orsay is located directly opposite the main railway station so is very handy if you dont know the area. Although there are a few restaurants etc around the hotel it is about 5 or 10 minutes walk into the main part of Toulouse and there are hotels that are more convenient for the attractions. Reception staff were helpful and very pleasant. The room was on the small side but clean. Stopped two nights in a double room costing 112 euros, 56 per night. It seemed that this was the standard cost rising as the season kicks in. There are no real facilities in the place, ie a bar or lounge but that wasnt an issue for us; but might be for others. Breakfast is an additional 7 euros per person and we had it one day. It was hardly worth it; no help yourself, just one roll and one croissant on a tray with jams etc but no cheese or meats. Located in the same block as the hotel is a sex shop..see photo and there were a few others at the road on the side of the hotel into town. If this offends you then there are several other roads into Toulouse that dont have these establishments. Overall this is a basic hotel not more than 2 star. Beware of the pricing arrangements; the prices vary according to room; one says overlooking garden and the other is overlooking canal. We opted for the later but the hotel was across a busy road...see photo
