We stayed here for 3 nights in August on a stay-for-three, pay-for-two nights deal travelling by Eurostar. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride from the station. The bedroom was reasonable large, well appointed and comfortable. The front of house staff were friendly and helpful - most speak very good English but will happily and patiently stay with French if you want to make the effort to speak it.
From the hotel it is about a 600-700mtr walk into the heart of old Lille which has lots of god restaurants and bistros in and in the general area of the main square. The bar/lounge area is fantastic - it is the whole courtyard of the old convent, completely covered over by a very high glass pyramid. The cocktails are superb and they certainly do not stint on the meassures of spirits in the way that some hotels are prone to do. Overall, an excellent hotel, and certainly well priced on the 3-for-2 deal we had.
For lunch, if you like moules/frites, you must try "Aux Moules" in rue Bethune - something of an institution in Lille. (About 300mtr from the east corner off the main square). We thought the best meal we had in the evening was at Alcide, about 50 mtrs down a narrow street from the west corner of ther square - excellent bistro-style restaurant. For a more fine-dining experience try Le Compostelle in rue st Etienne, again only about 100mts from the square in a very narrow street.
