This hotel was nice and quaint. My only complaint was that there was no A/C during a heat wave. Luckily we got a room with two windows on different walls, so we got a cross breeze but had to listen to the street noise.

The restaurant exceeded our expectations -- we had a lovely meal there, and found our meal the next night in a 4 star hotel to fail to live up to it. By the way, this is a 3 star hotel -- I'm not sure why the description says 1.

The hotel isn't very advanced when it comes to billing. We ordered a drink at the bar and were never asked for our room number. We made sure to tell the next bartender about our drink, but we wouldn't have been billed otherwise. Then our dinner was put on somebody else's room. We could have made out like bandits if we hadn't have been honest!

Stayed 3 days. Ate dinner 2 nights at hotel. Meals were great. Service was good, but servers also work hotel reception. Meal prices were reasonable.

Room was average for a small town in France. Stayed over Easter holidays when rooms were scarce and rates high. If you haven't traveled to Europe much, you may think the rooms were below average according to standards in the US. However, the rooms were clean.

The hotel was very nice and 'americanized'. The location is great and within blocks of the main areas of Bayeux. The hotel right next door is owned by the same people and costs about $50 less. I would stay there for the value.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to France, where we stayed in Bayeux for 4 nights and 2 nights in Paris. In Bayeux we stayed at the Best Western Grand Hotel Luxembourg.

Yes, the carpeting and bed spread were rather old, and we could smell smoke from smokers in the room next door, and the walls are not soundproof. The bathroom and toilet (the toilet was in a separate phonebooth sized room, which we called The Blue Room because it was done in blue tile) were kept clean by the maid. Our room, 709 on the second floor, was warm enough, in fact I left the windows open at night.

The staff were courteous and attentive. The dining room is very nice and we ate two delicious evening meals there during our stay. Each morning we ate from the Continental breakfast buffet, which had a large selection of breads, cereals, a fruit salad, meats, cheeses, coffee, teas, and juices. In the evenings we stopped in the lounge for a cognac or two.

I agree with some of the other reviewers who mentioned the difficulty of getting to the rooms because of having to go up stairs. My wife and I each had a large, heavy suitcase and getting them up and down the stairs took somewhat of an effort. But one has to realize that this building existed a very long time before the elevator was invented.

All in all, the stay was enjoyable and we wouldn't hesitate to stay in the Grand Hotel Luxembourg again.
