“A Welcoming Small Hotel, Ideally Situated for Tours of WWII Sites”

Hotel Churchill

Sep 14, 2008

The Hotel Churchill appears to be a rather popular hotel, and why not? It's ideally situated, smack dab in the middle of Bayeux, an easy stroll to this pleasant town's two main - and unmissable - sites: the cathedral and Bayeux Tapestry. What's more, the town itself is perfectly situated for excursions to Normandy's countless and compelling D-Day sites, and a day trip to Mont St. Michel is well within reach.

The Churchill itself is a fine, well run hotel. Our two-night stay last August featured a comfortable room, with views of the town's evocative cathedral (especially striking at night). The management at the Churchill is one of the hotel's best features, offering friendly, helpful service. You'll feel welcome as soon as you arrive.

There are several other noteworthy features about the Churchill. The hotel has an attractive breakfast room which doubles as a lounge, with numerous libations on offer. Breakfasts at the Churchill were ample and quite satisfactory, but there is an additional charge. Still, the Churchill provides three-star comfort at reasonable prices. Attached to the hotel is a small and charming gift shop, and this review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the hallways of the hotel, featuring countless framed photos dating from the Battle of Normandy. These were most interesting.

In conclusion, should you be considering a stay in Normandy, do consider the friendly confines of the Hotel Churchill.

“perfect 10”

Hotel Churchill

Sep 9, 2008

Our experience with the hotel churchill was amazing right from the start. The owner's emails were exceedingly warm and welcoming. We were blown away by the exquite quality of our accommodation. Our room was a 2 story suite with french doors opening onto the courtyard where we sat on comfortable chairs sipping coffee and excellent tea overlooking the flower baskets and a quiet setting. Our teenage boys were ecstatic with the huge bathroom and ultra modern gadgets, including a remote control to open their skylight from their loft bedroom. The decor was beautiful. We were so impressed with the gracious attitude of the staff, from the check in to the waiters, they so carefully watched over our every need. The location was also wonderful. We safely went for a run at 10pm. saw the gorgeous church at night, which was also seen from our son's bedroom window. Our only regret was having to leave so soon. The gift shop was first class, we were able to buy Christmas gifts that were unique and affordable.

We had an excellent time at the Churchill. Outstanding location, terrific breakfast, easy access to the invasion beaches and the Bayeaux tapestry. A first rate experience!

“Hotel Churchill was spectacular”

Hotel Churchill is recommended by Rick Steves travel books. He got it right. The hosts were wonderful and helpful. The hotel is cute and quaint, comfortable and very clean. It is a great home base for travel in Normandy and very convenient to shops and restaurants in the town of Bayeux. We had a wonderful time. We would stay there again in a New York minute.

“Charming Hotel Churchill”

Hotel Churchill

Normandy was the high point of a three-week vacation in France and the Hotel Churchill was the key to my enjoyment. Easily accessible by train from Paris, the cheerful and charming Hotel Churchill is a 10-minute walk down the hill from the train station. The hotel is warmly and efficiently managed by Rima Hebert and her husband (the accounting department) as well as a wonderful staff. An added benefit is the availability of a mini-van trip from the hotel to Mont St. Michel with a very informative and entertaining driver, Maurice.

The amazing Bayeux Tapestry is literally across the street from the entrance to the hotel. Then as Bayeaux is only 17 kilometers from Omaha Beach, I rented a bicycle and rode through the Normandy backroads to the American Cemetery. That ride and visiting the cemetery was an experience I will always remember. Rima's English is beautiful as is that of her assistant Daniel, who introduced me to Calvados.
