My husband and I just spent two nights last week (unfortunately not more) at this most delightful and enchanting chateau in Saumur; we had just before stayed near Amboise to visit the chateaux in that area, east of Tours, and then drove west to Saumur to tour Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau... this chateau has been lovingly restored to the highest level of quaity with exceptional attention to detail - if you really appreciate fine taste, this will not disappoint! From the moment you enter the electric gates, you perceive that you have a special experience awaiting you; the common areas (formal living room, dining room, entry hall with professional floral arrangement) exude an refined elegance from days past that draws you in, very relaxing and calming...not stuffy or "museum-like" at all; we also appreciated the fact that there is an elevator for those not wanting to use the (gorgeous)staircase each time you leave and enter... the charming and bright breakfast room on the lower level was a welcome delight each morning and the food and presentation excellent... the landscaping is lovely and the grounds are attractive to stroll...Saumur has great restaurants (they will recommend the best value/quality ones) and is very charming to wander and explore... a great launching spot for discovering Loire wine producers as well of course as visiting the area's chateaux... don't miss this one.. the pricing is fair and totally worth it ... and the host and hostess and their dog are wonderful!
