“Modern, Spotless, Fantastic Service”

Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene

Aug 23, 2008

The Roi Rene is located a short walk from the majestic Cours Mirabeau, the main street in Aix. It's a modern hotel, not classically French, but the facilities and the fantastic service make this a great place to stay.

We stayed in a double room, on the 1st floor. Completely modern, wonderful bed and bedding and a flat screen TV. Everything you would need including air con!

The pool area is small but lovely to chill on, on a hot summer Provence day. Lots of loungers and towels.

If you are looking for a classic French hotel, this is not the place. But we loved it, great to explore the town. All parts of the town within 20 mins walking distance - don't bother driving!

We have stayed in 'classic French' hotels before and they are lovely too, but for convenience and comfort to explore the many delights of Aix, this is the place to stay.

You can often tell how good a hotel is by the guests it attracts....this hotel was full of polite, considerate guests - mainly French.

“Nice Hotel in Aix”

Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene

4 of 5 stars
Bonn, Germany
Jun 28, 2008

I stayed at the Roi Rene for two nights while on company business. Hotel is located within walking distance from the central train station, just south of the old town.

Room (on the second floor) was spacious and modern. Wifi is available in the Hotel and various price models are in place (I had 3 hrs for 9,90 Euros). Had a very low signal the first day; second day was much better. Pool is located in the courtyard and quite pleasant for a 'quick dip'.

Hotel bar is quite a sad place and, with so many nice bistros in the old part of town, not well in demand.

All in all quite a nice experience

“A pleasant hotel in a good location”

Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene

3 of 5 stars
Derbyshire, UK
Oct 31, 2007

We booked two nights via Venere.com at 290Euros for two nights room onlyy. you could be stung for extras though to bump the price up but we didn't think were necessary, well not for us on this occasion anyway. Breakfast was an extra 18 euros each - you can grab a simple breakfast of juice, coffee and a Danish pastry at many local cafes for about 5 Euro's. The undergroud car park was an extrra 16 Euro a night, we parked for free on the hotel forecourt but I guess at busier times the car park is well worth it. We had evening dinner at the hotel which was of good quality with excellent service from the staff and inexpensive.

We were in room 206 on the 2nd floor. The bed is large, comfortable with crispy clean linen which was great. The batroom was fairly new therefore very clean, there are fluffy towelling bathrobes as well as towels which was great. The only down side of the room was it was a bit chilly, the air con / heating unit gives out cold air, still not cold enough for us to complain.

All the staff were very helpful and friendly but we thought the check in was a bit pushy about havign breakfast,
On the whole a good hotel and would definitely stay here again if in Aix, perhaps in the summer months when the pool is in use.

“First floor rooms are questionable”

Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene

Oct 25, 2007

I stayed for 4 nights with a tour. The first night was on the first floor which badly needed refurbishing. The room was not particularly clean, had a moldy odor and the mattresses were very uncomfortable. Could not have stayed in that room more than one night. The upper floors have been renovated . We were moved to the 3rd floor & were very satisfied with the newly redone room. The location was excellent & the staff friendly but I would never book on the first floor.

“Yep, its perfect”

Grand Hotel Mercure Aix en Provence Roi Rene

5 of 5 stars
London
Sep 30, 2007

I had some reservations booking with accor, expecting a standard chain hotel but was pleasantly surprised. Feels more like a boutique hotel set in a leafy part of Provence city a close walk to the main bit.

The room was great, probably one of the best I've stayed in, although the toilet smelled of smoke and this was meant to be a non smoking room. Suppose that is France though.

The staff were competent (also a surprise) and we even were tempted to have a swim in their pool (not a resort style pool, but well above average for a city hotel).

Highly recommended.
