“Camargues experience”

Hotel Mas de Peint

I stayed in Mas de Peint for two days in july. This was my second visit there, I was there also five years ago. The place was just as perfect as it was back then. The wonderfull owners are still as charming as before.
The decor of the place is detailed, it has a rustic charm of a countryhouse/farm that to me is more Spanish than French. The food is really good; simple with local fresh products. The dining experience itself is very enjoyable, the kitchen area is really cosy.
Mas de Peint is great spot for staying for couple of nights, and making trips to Arles, and exploring Camargue. Arles might be a typical quite touristic town, but it is not over crowded which is nice.
Salins de Giraud is worth visit: You can`t say it`s beautifull, rather than visiting moon, but it`s something I`ve never seen before.

Spent 3 idyllic days at the Mas in June2006 . Our stay was exceptional in every way.
We came from Paris to Avignon on the TGV and rented a car to drive to the Camargue. Note that although most car rental companies in at the Avignon TGV or Arles TGV stations will let you book an automatic on line, there is a chronic shortage of those vehicules and you may have to fight a while to get one. Saw 3 other US parties in that situation. We had to settle with an automatic minivan instead of our automatic Mercedes sedan and did not get any discounts.
We arrived at the Mas in late afternoon and although the kitchen was closed, they prepared us a nice platter of cheese, strawberries and cherries which we ate poolside with an exceptional bottle of wine. Set dinner menu was outstanding. Try to reserve a table in the kitchen itself and let them know earlier in the day if there are items you cannot eat. Both Lucille and Jacques Bon came to check on us and chat at our table. Lucille's english is great but speaking French with Jacques is a better idea! Our room was the duplex one with bathroom on the second floor but that made it even more romantic and rustic. Beautiful bathtub!
We went on a 2h horse ride organized by the hotel which was a lot of fun but remember to use lots of bug repellent. Horse flies will still sting through the thickest jeans! No mosquitoes in June but we were told to watch out starting July.
The highlight of our stay was a special bullfighting event organized by Mr Bon on location. This was great because there were no scheduled bullfighting in the area during our stay. We first got to watch the "Gardians" round up some bulls and we got to help branding them and even received a piece of one bull's ear... Makes a nice key ring attachement. Then we got to see a demonstration of the bullfighting in a traditional wooden arena on location. Yes, no bulls put to death or stabbed with pikes like in Spain but still pretty bloody when the bulls jump the fence and collide with the wall.
The Mas location was ideal to explore Arles and the Camargue. On the one night were dinner was not available at the Mas we tried a restaurant in Arles. The hotel receptionists were very helpful throughout our stay and set everything up for us whenever we needed it. That made our visits to restaurants and attractions even more enjoyable since we were always given special attention just for being referred by the Mas de Peint!

“Perfection”

Jacques and Lucille Bon have created a small resort that offers truly fine amenities. The interiors are designed with loving care and tasteful expertise by Louise, an architect by training. Jacques looks like a character from central casting; a gentleman rancher who has the polished grace of a French gentleman.

The food was wonderful and the staff attentive. Not one item was out of place nor one experience less than perfect.

“My favorite in all Provence”

This place is magic. It is more like being a guest in Mme and M. Bon's home than a hotel. The rooms are immaculate and there are roses everywhere. The linen sheets are crisp and cool and the bath tub huge.
I have never stayed in a more charming spot; this was far and away my favorite hotel in all of Provence. The meals, served in the kitchen, are intimate and delicious. But it is the service and hospitality that make this place so special. If I had realized how close it was to Arles, I would have stayed here as a base and enjoyed it even longer.

“Wonderful!”

This is a wonderful spot, a remodeled farmhouse run by the inimitable Jacques Bon. The rooms are very comfortable and the dining/breakfast room is fab. The foos was great and they made a special meal for my vegetarian wife on 60 mins notice. The pool is surrounded by amazingly fragrant flowers and the area, the Camargue, is unique in Europe and provides excellent birdwatching and beachwalking in addition to the [required] riding on "them white horses". If you're lucky, and the time is right, Jacques Bon can arrange a visit to the local bullfighting, which involves danger only to the human participants. I'd go nowhere else to experience the Camargue, for you are truly well looked after at the Bon's place.
