“Charming Hotel near Roman arena”

We stayed two nights at this lovely hotel (a former mansion) in late March. Located a 5 minute walk from the Roman arena it was a perfect spot in the old city section of Arles. A short walk to Forum Square, St Trophime church, Van Gogh sites, and nearby cafes and bistros. The front desk person was very helpful, called in a reservation for dinner at 'Le 16' one night and suggested other wonderful places to eat. Our room was spacious with a 14 ft beamed ceiling and comfortable bath with separate toilet room. We were up one flight of stairs (there is no lift) but they were wide marble steps and easy to climb. The hotel seemed quite full but we never heard any sounds in our room and slept well each night. We chose the continental breakfast less than 7 euros each and had plenty to eat in the lovely breakfast room each morning - juice, breads, jams and coffee, all delicious and typically French. Would stay there again, a great value compared to other hotels in the area.

This place offers good value for a delightful, romantic stay.
My girl friend and I stayed here last October in an airy, spacious suite, which had two comfortable beds, good quality linen, windows galore that looked out onto the rooftops of Arles, lovely French feel to the decor and the whole place. The location of the hotel could not be more central, just around the corner is the Amphitheatre, the Baths etc. Walking around town and looking for good restaurants was a pleasure. Parking was a breeze. There are about 5 spaces about 20 steps from the door of the hotel and 50 plus more about 50 steps away between this property and Le Calendal. There are two computers on the ground floor free for the use of its guests. The included continental breakfast
was the best hotel breakfast we had during our trip and that is saying a lot as we also stayed at Ducasse's Bastide des Moustiers at Ste Marie des Moustiers and La Perouse in Nice. The breakfast room was simple and rustic French, the pastries perfectly fresh, the cheeses were excellent, the coffee good but it is the assorted homemade jam served with the bread that is just outstanding. The staff was pleasant and helpful without being obtrusive.
The hotel can be a little hard to find as signs pointing to it disappear at critical junctures and the roads are really narrow. The best way is to follow signs for Le Calendal as the hotel is about two minutes around the corner from Calendal. The hotel has no lift and the rooms differ in amenities, some do not have bathtubs.
We abolutely loved this hotel and still reminisce about it. And while you are in Arles you must have dinner at L'Atelier. For about 70 euro pp, you get 14 (?) dishes and wine and a true gastronomic experience. La Boheme also walking distance from the hotel is another good place to have dinner.

I was a little concerned when my emails following the initial reservation were not answered, but this was the only problem in a wonderful stay in the Belvedere Room. (and perhaps it was due to my appalling French)

This hotel is perfectly located for walking around the historic sites of Arles, not to mention the wonderful restaurants where we over-ate at every opportunity.

If the Belvedere is available - grab it! It is like your own private attic with 360 degree views of the town and surroundings from its multiple windows.

Your room door opens onto a grand stone staircase with the bathroom at the top. Then a spiral wooden staircase up to the tastefully decorated room. Be warned - the spiral staircase is narrow - we left our largest bags under the stairs outside the bathroom.

The entire hotel is well laid out - lounge with open fire, small art gallery with computers with free internet access so you can write home and make your friends jealous, and lovely breakfast room with tasty breakfast. There is also a small outdoor courtyard that was closed due to the cold weather for our visit.

We had the cheaper fixed breakfast each day and it was more food than you could eat.

There are no restaurant or bar facilities in the hotel, but even in mid winter there were great restaurants within 5 mins walk.

    • Liked — Spectacular room at a tiny price
    • Disliked — No porters - like lots of French hotels be prepared to carry your own bags up the stairs.

Great location though a bit hard to find at first. Clean room. They didn't have a triple available for myself and the other 2 people I was traveling with; but they put us in a quadruple room for the triple rate. It was lovely, high ceilings, plenty of space.

Booked of Expedia for 59 Euro. Small medieval streets make it a bear to navigate and find parking but hotel has it's own carpark for 5 Euros per night. Got upgraded at check-in to 71Euro room with tub.
Beautiful, well decorated sitting rooms with walls covered by local artwork. Computers with internet access available in common area, free wireless if you have a laptop. This hotel is beautiful and rivals any "four star" I've stayed in for furnishings and ambiance. My room was very large with huge sink area and toilet room. Decorated with Romanesque tiles, exposed beams on the 15 foot high ceiling, nice furniture and a comfortable queen sized bed. This place is great!!! Three minute walk to the Arena, the Roman theater and the town square. The 6.85 Euro breakfast is the best value I've seen on the 15 day visit throughout France. Killer good bread, croissants, and chocolate bread, coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. I gave them a bag of laundry in the morning and it was folded on my bed when I returned 8 hours later. I love this place and couldn't imagine staying anywhere better at any price. Book early, because the hotel was understandably full all three nights I stayed and this was the 3 days following Christmas.
