“Suite fantastic!”

Hotel De L'Amphitheatre

We had a fantastic stay in this rustic, colourful, charming hotel. We booked the suite which was about perfect, with a comfy bed, lovely bathroom, sitting room and very secluded balcony.

We also booked a triple room for our teenagers which was fine. The common areas of the hotel are stunningly designed and the overall feel is impressive.

They do a lovely breakfast and though not included in the price is well worth having and the staff and service is pleasant. If they only had a bar, resturant and lift, you'd expect this hotel to be four star without a doubt. But none of that is a problem as there are plenty fine places to eat and drink on the doorstep. The hotels location couldn't be better, with the breathtaking Ampitheatre next door and within walking distance to everything of interest.

Arles is lovely, watch the film Ronin for a taster before you visit. Nice to see the imfamous locations painted by Van Gogh in his time there.

We'll definetely go back for another romantic break one day, maybe without the kids next time. ;-)

“A cut above the usual sterile fare”

We have just stayed at Hotel D'Amphitheatre in Arles for four nights. It was full of character and perfectly located 5 or 10 minutes from the railway and bus stations, and less than 50m from Arles' Roman arena. The price seemed very reasonable for the excellent standard of accommodation. Our room was a good sized double with a high ceiling, new ensuite with bath and a view over the hotel's central courtyard. Breakfast was an optional extra 7.5 euros, which wasn't bad considering how good it was - a cut above the usual croissant and roll with freshly squeezed juice, speciality breads and jams and delicious almond pastries. Guests have free use of two pcs so we were able to check on train and bus times very easily.

This hotel made our holiday all the more enjoyable and was a cut above the usual sterile fare.

“superb place to stay in the heart of Arles”

This hotel has heaps of charm and character in a medieval/renaissance hotel in the heart of the city a stone's throw from the Arena. Room had good view over the street and was very comfortable with a good bed. Excellent sitting room, internet and breakfast dining area (though breakfast cost extra, but worth it). Staff a bit officious, but compensated for by everything else. Unbeatable location and good value.

“Charming Hotel near Roman arena”

We stayed two nights at this lovely hotel (a former mansion) in late March. Located a 5 minute walk from the Roman arena it was a perfect spot in the old city section of Arles. A short walk to Forum Square, St Trophime church, Van Gogh sites, and nearby cafes and bistros. The front desk person was very helpful, called in a reservation for dinner at 'Le 16' one night and suggested other wonderful places to eat. Our room was spacious with a 14 ft beamed ceiling and comfortable bath with separate toilet room. We were up one flight of stairs (there is no lift) but they were wide marble steps and easy to climb. The hotel seemed quite full but we never heard any sounds in our room and slept well each night. We chose the continental breakfast less than 7 euros each and had plenty to eat in the lovely breakfast room each morning - juice, breads, jams and coffee, all delicious and typically French. Would stay there again, a great value compared to other hotels in the area.

“Wonderful, wonderful stay”

This place offers good value for a delightful, romantic stay.
My girl friend and I stayed here last October in an airy, spacious suite, which had two comfortable beds, good quality linen, windows galore that looked out onto the rooftops of Arles, lovely French feel to the decor and the whole place. The location of the hotel could not be more central, just around the corner is the Amphitheatre, the Baths etc. Walking around town and looking for good restaurants was a pleasure. Parking was a breeze. There are about 5 spaces about 20 steps from the door of the hotel and 50 plus more about 50 steps away between this property and Le Calendal. There are two computers on the ground floor free for the use of its guests. The included continental breakfast
was the best hotel breakfast we had during our trip and that is saying a lot as we also stayed at Ducasse's Bastide des Moustiers at Ste Marie des Moustiers and La Perouse in Nice. The breakfast room was simple and rustic French, the pastries perfectly fresh, the cheeses were excellent, the coffee good but it is the assorted homemade jam served with the bread that is just outstanding. The staff was pleasant and helpful without being obtrusive.
The hotel can be a little hard to find as signs pointing to it disappear at critical junctures and the roads are really narrow. The best way is to follow signs for Le Calendal as the hotel is about two minutes around the corner from Calendal. The hotel has no lift and the rooms differ in amenities, some do not have bathtubs.
We abolutely loved this hotel and still reminisce about it. And while you are in Arles you must have dinner at L'Atelier. For about 70 euro pp, you get 14 (?) dishes and wine and a true gastronomic experience. La Boheme also walking distance from the hotel is another good place to have dinner.
