Hotel Medieval
We stayed here, choosing Avignon as our base to visit a limited part of southern france.
Location: Avignon is a major citry in southern france, takes 1-1.5hrs to drive from Marseille (hired car). It larger compared to other towns such as Nimes, Arles, but smaller than Aix. We were able to visit the towns previously listed, including Carpentras, Isle D'l Sorge, Fontaine de Vaucluse, St. Remy during our 5 day stay. Avignon has a number of shops, a beautiful park garedens, lots of restaurants including some Michelin recommended and a michelein star one.
Hotel: This is in an old building, ground floor is reception and dining area, with a common room/library. I believe there are 2 further floors. The reception service was fantastic, English speaking and very courteous booking restaurants. This is a 2 star hotel.
Room: We asked for a quiet room and were therfore given a room facing a inner courtyard. The room is typical of European rooms, single room (small) with a double bed. OK mattress. A safe is included, cupboard space, a small table and two chairs. Our room had a kitchenette which has a stove and fridge. We were able to use the fridge. There is a powerful airconditioner, which is noisy at night (but u get use to it) and also a heater bar. In september, we had to use the air-con one night and was good. The room decorations are very simple, and the lighting could be improved in the room ( maybe being in the courtyard we lacked natural light ) - more lamps would have been good. Room cleaned daily - well cleaned.
Bathroom: The bathroom is ok size, toilet located in a small corner and shower average. Water always hot, pressure poor, and under a timing system where you had to depress is again after 1 minute (guess it saves on water). Sink as well and toiletires provided everyday.
Car Park: no car park for this small hotel, but we were able to park at the big Les Halles car park( massive 7 storey). You get a discount which turns out to be max of 7 euros/24 hrs.
Breakfast - we tried b/f one morning. we asked for it to be brought to our room. A selection of baguette and criossants, juices, coffee, jams for 7euros per person. If you have it downstairs, you can have some more including options of cereal too.
Price: we paid 63 euros per night (including tax) for a double. There are a lot more expensive places in Avignon, but being on budget we thought this was a great place and would recommend again. Servce at the reception was exceptional ( very impressed - always willing to help).
