“good choice if you can't get in to the top relais in the area”

Auberge de Noves

4 of 5 stars
new york
Aug 11, 2006

this place must do all it's business from relais & chateux and is probably an overspill from the more popular places. It's absolutely fine, but it's not got the extra pazazz that other relais properties have. The location isn't great - it's in the countryside, but there's no villages with good restaurants close by so it's a drive to avignon or st remy if you don't want to eat at the hotel . the hotel is good value for rooms, but extremely expensive for food - we didn't eat here though so i can't comment on if it was worth it. the rooms are ok, the terraces are nice (if a little non-private), the pool is fine. the carpets are bad, but that seems to be true of all european family run hotels.
overall, you won't be disappointed, but you won't be blown away by this place. staff were very nice.

“Well worth a trip”

Auberge de Noves

Having read the reviews on this site, the one negative review about Auberge de Noves put me off a bit, and I was reluctant to book this hotel. However, when we arrived, we were much relieved to find a wonderful hotel with very nice facilities and most importantly, a fantastic restaurant. We were staying in what I think was graded as a 'pleasant room', and it certainly was, with a big bathroom and french doors onto a balcony catching the sun all day, with views across the hills. I think the decor varies a bit from room to room, and this was one of the lower categories, and it was up to scratch. The dinner was amazing and the continental breakfast perfect. Service excellent.

“A Haven.”

Auberge de Noves

5 of 5 stars
London, England.

Twentyfive years ago my wife and I discovered a haven of peace and tranquility amid the beautiful countryside of Provence. The Auberge de Noves, just south of Avignon, is also ideally situated for visiting the many Roman and Mediaeval in the area as well as touring the fine surrounding countryside. Since this discovery we have returned twice a year for a few days for "Rest and Recuperation" from our busy working lives in London.

The Auberge is owned by the Lalleman family and now run by Robert, the grandson of the first owner, and is ably assisted by his father, Andre, who seems to prefer working long hours, entertaining his guests in many languages, to a well earned retirement.

The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, the majority with balconies overlooking surrounding woods. The dining room has a pleasant ambience for a
relaxed dinner, superb food being served from an extensive menu with fine wines from the long list, many being local Rhone vintages. But the supreme experience is to dine outdoors on the old terrace on a fine summers night with a view of floodlit Chateau Renard in the distance. A timeless experience.

Despite our frequent world travel, always staying in the best hotels and restaurants ( especially R and C) we anticipate our return to Provence with pleasure each year. This says much for the hospitality of the Family Lalleman and The auberge de Noves.

“total relaxation!”

This is a lovely, family run, French hotel. We discovered it 5 years ago and have since visited 2 or 3 times each year for a few days at a time and, judging by the now familiar faces amongst the other guests, we are not the only ‘regulars’. During our stays we rarely leave the hotel and its grounds, it is just so relaxing! The hotel is situated on a hill approximately 500 meters back from the D28 road. The grounds merge into the forest and there is plenty of walking, the hotel is even able to provide a dog or two to keep you company. The Lalleman family are attentive hosts, nothing is too much trouble. All the rooms we have stayed in are cool, clean and comfortable with a well equipped bathroom. The food is great and there is an extensive wine list. Dinning on the terrace on a summer evening is not to be missed – shaded by a large tree with the sounds of cicadas and the occasional frog, the ruins of the Chateau Renard lit up in the distance it is a truly wonderful experience. We are keen swimmers so the swimming pool is an important facility for us. It is surrounded by tall pine trees, well provided with loungers and an unlimited supply of towels. It is kept spotlessly clean even when the Mistral is shaking down the pine needles. We will be back there as soon as Easter is past!

“A Wonderful Place”

Auberge de Noves

My husband and I first went to the Auberge de Noves over twenty-five years ago and have gone back regularly-- at least fifteen times-- since, and in all seasons. We have just returned from a week's stay there.

The Auberge offers a wonderful combination of informality, such as the very readable handwritten suggestions for "rambles"either on or off the property (which is extensive and always being kept up)
and a more formal but still relaxed dining room.
In our opinion the food itself ranges from delicious to superb. The chef is Robert Lalleman who follows the family tradition as third generation chef/manager.

The Auberge may well disappoint a guest who is looking for an ultra-modern U.S. style overnight business hotel, although it does have conference facilities which we have seen in active use on a number of occasions. The rooms range from very comfortable to very up-to-date and the service is prompt and friendly. This is a country chateau dedicated to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere of unpressured European elegance and excellent cuisine.

We will surely go again, just as soon as we can.
