“Fab Hotel!”

De l'Horloge Hotel

We stayed at the Horloge albeit just for 1 night, but we were sorry we couldn't stay for longer as we loved it! Friendly staff and a lovely cosy and nicely decorated hotel (very contemporary). Our room had just had a new carpet put in it and the bathroom was really clean and smart. We had a lovely view from our window overlooking rooftops and beyond. The best part though was the breakfast- it was a feast! We could have eaten enough to see us through to the next day!! There was a choice of pastries, eggs, fruit, cheeses and hams and a range of hot and cold drinks. Lovely breakfast room as well.
I read a negative review for this hotel but I don't think you can complain about a hotel based on the square it's next to... and I disagree, as the square has a lot of lovely cafés/ restaurants to suit everyone's tastes. Also the location is amazing- you're just around the corner from the palais des papes.
Well worth it for the price (we paid £60 for the room for 1 night including the sumptuous breakfast!).

“Not so good...”

De l'Horloge Hotel

We wouldn't stay here again-or in Avignon. The location is good-right on the main square and close to the Papal Palace and bridge. However, the main square wasn't quite what we had hoped for. The cafes there were mediocre and empty. Maybe it is different in summer, but it lacked atmosphere. Avignon itself, despite the beautiful buildings, felt unsafe and the large police presence backed this up. We were relieved to find that we could wander around the next city in which we stayed (Aix en Provence) without feeling threatened.

As for the hotel itself, we were disappointed with the room. It was clearly in need of renovation...chipped furniture with handles either falling off or already missing, scuffs all over the woodchip walls, small uncomfortable bed, aircon which made the room warmer (we were later informed by the staff that the aircon setting did not work as it was still set to winter and was therefore only heating the room-a point which would've been helpful to know before we switched it on!).

The bathroom was also in need of renovation. Extremely small bathtub, shower with no curtain or screen (so everything got unavoidably drenched), old fittings.

On a positive note, the majority of the staff were helpful and friendly and everything was clean. There was discounted parking at the Palais de Papes carpark.

This could be a decent hotel, but it is in serious need of renovation. My tip would be to stay in Aix en Provence rather than Avignon, though.

“Can't beat the location & rooms are lovely”

De l'Horloge Hotel

Stayed at Hotel de L Horloge in March 2008 and would definitely stay here again if I returned to Avignon.
THE GOOD
- Tastefully decorated rooms
- We had a triple room which overlooked Place De L'Horlage. The room was a great size.
- Good coffee/tea facilities and bar fridge selection
- Hotel has lift access (many European hotels do not)
- Beds were comfy
THE BAD
- No hook for shower, so you either have to take a bath or hold the shower hose yourself
- Breakfast at 14Euro is very pricey, can't comment on quality as we didn't eat there - but I suggest eatting at one of the many restaurants in the main square.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Eat at Opera Cafe, 24 Place de L'Horloge (recommend booking on arrival). Excellent meal and value, great atmosphere.
- Supermarket is 2mins from hotel - walk down main street, Rue De La Republique.
- Booked hotel through expedia

“A Wonderful Place To Stay!”

De l'Horloge Hotel

My husband stayed in this hotel for three nights, we booked the standard for two, the hotel staff upgraded our room to a Superior Double Room since he noticed that we prepaid hotel room. The hotel room is gorgers, classy and charming. The bath room is big, spotless and classy. We really enjoyed our stay there. The hotel location is also the best, it is only a few minutes from Pope's Palace and shopping centers. The restaurant downstairs was a big turndown though. We were told the restaurant does not belong to the hotele, it has different owner. We had dinner in that rest first night we were there. My brother-law dropped the fork, I asked one waiter to get one for us, he totally ignored me, then I asked the another waiter for get a fork for us, he replied " He(my brother in law) eat soup with a spoon not a fork.” He was refusing to give us a fork! You will never expect this kind of service in US though. I really wanted to slap him at the moment. The food was pretty good though if you don't mind the snobby waiters. We never went to that restaurant again. We found a wonderful restaurant on a side road just a little off the main street, it was only two minutes walking from hotel, If I remember right it called D'ici et d'ailleurs, it is a French Family Restaurant next to a closed out sushi restaurants. The lady worked there always greeted us with a big smile and was very friendly throughout our meal. She might be the owner. I like their 12 euros lunch special on the lunch menu, you get the appetizer, a glass of wine, a main course for 12 euros, what a great deal, and the food was just excellent!

“Central position, needs some refurbishment”

De l'Horloge Hotel

3 of 5 stars
WALTON-ON-THAMES, SURREY
Jan 21, 2008

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in January 2008. It is very centrally and conveniently located. It is a bit of a rabbit-warren inside. Our bedroom needed refurbishment, the carpet was dog-eared, the ceiling woodchip paper, the plumbing noisy, the bathroom a bit worn. Some bathrooms were being replaced when we were there. The room temperature was 26c and the "air-con" would not bring this down on any setting, we had to open the window. Reception was helpful, breakfast is buffet and quite adequate and costs EUR14 each, some websites have a deal which includes breakfast. We would stay there again - at the right price.
