“Annexe not as good as the main hotel”

La Banasterie

We had to stay in the annexe as the main hotel was full and, as expected, it was not as good an experience as others have had there .
We were in the double bedroom on the top(third) floor (110E) .It was clean, brightly decorated with good facilites ( shower, separate toilet, kitchenette with kettle etc, hair dryer, TV, AC) but you need to consider 3 things;
1. the staircase to the room is quite steep and narrow; we had our bags carried up for us, but coming down we were on our own. If you're less than fit/agile...
2. I'm not sure how we would have evacuated the room if there had been a fire below; there is no other exit other than down the narrow stairs.
3. the natural light in the room is very limited; there is one small window that looks into the building's lightwell but you need to keep the curtain drawn so as not to be overlooked. The other small window is app. 2 ft above head height and gives you a restricted view of chimney pots and attic windows. If you're busy in Avignon and only in the room for 2 nights, as we were, this was not a big issue for the price we were paying.
The continental breakfast was excellent, delivered to the bedroom door and left hanging on the hook at the agreed time.
The location is good. We did not meet the owners ( who had been very freindly and helpful when contacting them to make the booking) but dealt with their son,Michel, who was very helpful.
We had a look in the first floor bedroom( one double bed and 2 singles in the stiting/eating area) of the annexe and this looked nice/ better than our room . But given the nature of the building and surroundings in this area even though this had a big window it was not a sunny room.
The main house/hotel looked really nice and I would stay again if I could be in the main part.

“Beautiful Quiet Place Right in the Heart of Avignon”

The place is near all the tourist attractions, yet hidden in a quiet street. Quiet, peaceful, and charming. Due to availability, we had to get a more expensive suite. It turned out to be a great arrangement. The room was beautiful with old-world charm. We were on the top floor, so after a day of sight-seeing, we were able to relax on the roof-top garden with a bottle of wine and local cheese. (Almost everything closes at 6pm in France, and dinner doesn't usually start until 8-9pm, so it was nice to have a place to relax before dinner.) You can also rest in the 2nd-floor sitting room. Delicious chocolate was available throughout the place. Breakfast was simple yet elegant. Free internet access was a bonus. Listen to the owners' recommendations of restaurants.

“Wonderful for couple with small child”

My husband and our 14 month old stayed at their annex property March 23-26 for 4 nights in the first floor room (in other words the second floor apartment).

We really enjoyed our stay here. We were looking for an apartment more than anything and this was a great alternative as many of the more traditional apartments were not available for less than one week. Plus, they delivered wonderful breads and juice every morning - a HUGE bonus.

I read many reviews and a few complaints about this property. Could it use a paint job in the entry way and in some rooms in the apartment? Probably. New carpet? Perhaps. But for us the apartment was perfect. Very centrally located to safe and inexpensive parking (Los Angeles standards anyway) as we rented a car, to the Pope's Palace, and all the other places we visited. It was also easy to drive and walk from the car. The apartment is a very good size, and they supplied a cot for our baby (who slept in the eating area). The tub and sink were wonderful, the toilet just OK.

We would stay here again if we needed to although when we return I imagine we'll rent a house outside the city in a village somewhere - at least that is my dream!

“A GREAT stay in Avignon”

La Banasterie

My husband and I stayed at La Banasterie during the Christmas holiday after reading the very positive reviews. The rooms are tastefully decorated and spacious and the proprietors were especially helpful in arranging restaurant reservations on Christmas Eve and Day. I usually don't go for the floral "fluff" that most B&Bs exude, but this one was very romantic and I went for it big time (candlelight on the stairs, scented lavender hangers in the closets and the bathroom had a nice, deep soaking tub). The breakfasts were simply but thoughtfully prepared with fresh fruit and breads--just a lot of nice touches. We would stay here again in a second.

I foolishly booked us at Hotel d'Europe, a high-end hotel in town, for the final two nights of the stay in Avignon, thinking it would be very upscale and a different kind of experience. Big mistake! We cursed ourselves for not staying at La Banasterie the entire time. Read my review of that hotel for more details.

“The perfect family of four stop”

I booked our stay online. The proprietor e-mailed me back promptly with the 'annex' option for two adults and two eight year old children.

Avignon is a lovely town with narrow winding streets. The taxi driver knew of the hotel immediately and took us there. A quick drive from the TGV station.

The hotel's location is very nice. It is just around the corner from the beaten path. The town square, which is a block away, has a wonderful carousel for the children. We walked all over the old city with ease.

The proprietor also suggested restaurants and talked extensively with our car rental company in French, helping us immensely with a computer glitch.

We went up a narrow winding staircase to our very roomy apartment. A full kitchen, full bathroom (toilet in a different room than the bathtub) a large dining area where there are two twin beds or daybeds and one room separated by antique french doors with a queen bed.

It was clean and quaint. In the morning a nice breakfast of bread, jam, coffee and hot chocolate was hung on our door.

We really liked it there and would stay there again without any hesitation.
