“nice new rooms but service is cold”

Hotel Gray d'Albion

Feb 6, 2008

I stayed at the Gray d'Albion for 3 nights in December.
I was fortunate to stay in the new renovated rooms which are nice and modern, not very big but well equippred with nice amenities.Nice flat screen TV, nice bathroom products such as Hermes perfume and great soaps and nice fluffy bathroom.

Service I felt was cold..check in was smoothe, they took me up to the room but did not find them over friendly.
First night at 10:00 pm called for room service and they said they could not give me anything to eat..not what one expects from this caliber hotel..
Also was never greated by the hotel staff when going in and out of the hotel...there was never anyone at the front desk.

Only meal I had was breakfast in the room..nice continental breakfast great croissants.

All and all a good hotel if you get new rooms but staff could be better.

“Great Well Priced Hotel Near the Croisette (Main Cannes Beach)”

Hotel Gray d'Albion

A very good well priced hotel 1 block from the main beach (La Croisette) in Cannes. I stayed at this hotel from Sept 7-10, 2007 on the 9th floor. After checking prices at several other premium properties that I normally stay at (Martinez, Intercontinetal, Carlton, etc) I found prices to be extremely high (450 Euros/night at Martinez for example). So after seeing much more reasonable prices at Gray D'Albion (140 Euros/night including breakfast), and looking at their web site I decided to give it a try. The hotel is 1 block from the beach and has 9 floors in one building and private condos in a 2nd building (which is right beside the beach). The hotel also has their own private beach on La Croisette which is a short walk from the hotel where they have a restaurant, comfortable lawn chairs and waiter service to your chair - so you can order food, drinks, etc right at your reclining beach chair. The private beach, like the hotel, is terrific. To be candid the other hotels (Martinez, Intercontinental, Carlton) are superior properties. But when you compare the price to the quality difference between these hotels and the Gray D'Albion there's a somewhat minor difference in quality, but a HUGE difference in price. Even when traveling on business and someone else was paying my bill I decided to stay at Gray D'Albion and was happy I did. The front desk staff is great, the room was good sized with modern furniture and another bonus is the bus to the NICE airport is immediately in front of the hotel. 10 steps out of the front door of the hotel and I was on an express bus to the airport.

I recommend this hotel for familes, people seeking a good quality to price and for those that want to be near shopping, the main beach and the business district.

“Dissapointment”

Hotel Gray d'Albion

This is a finely located hotel, stretching between rue d' Antibes and the sea front la Croisette, thus providing easy access to the best that Cannes has to offer in terms of both shopping and strolling. The hotel provides a cheaper alternative to the luxury heavyweights of la Croisette, but as in many other things in life one is only due to receive what one has payed for. In the case of gray d'albion guests, this results in rooms that would be deemed as an embarashment even to a 1-star establishment.

We booked a supposedly superior room which featured the most repulsive carpet I have ever encountered anywhere. Large stains and small stains covered it's texture almost entirely, making one fearful of puting a naked feet down. The rest of the room was only marginably better - everything from the walls to the doors was crying desperately for renovation. And as it might be expected, that old, sorry deep-red carpet extended on to the outside corridor as well, even covering its walls, creating an atmosphere of such cheapness and gloominess that would be scarcely possible to replicate even in a meticulous period film about the passing of a former grand era.

I do not want to give up totally on this hotel, because the lobby area as well as the restaurant floor had an ambience and a certain feeling of 'grandeur', obviously resulting from some recent makeover. Perhaps this is what is planned for the rest of the hotel too. However, until such work is actually undertaken and completed, I will definitelly not return to stay there again.

The hotel provides access to a private part of the beach ( at a charge ). The staff was nothing to talk about, their somewhat stiff attitude looked to us more like a reflection of the gloominess of the upper floors. The rooms were of adequate size, though in the state that they find themselves in this proves to be more of a problem than an actual benefit.

“Wonderful hotel and only superb review again from this traveller.”

Hotel Gray d'Albion

It is a great pleasure to again review this lovely hotel for which I have nothing but praise. I guess it just depends what room you are given but fortunately I was lucky the same time last year when I enjoyed a week's holiday here and again for the same period this year into early June. I was allotted an even more beautiful and attractive quiet room with balcony facing the garden at the rear of the building and a little gift of bath salts and welcoming note in my room on arrival which I thought a nice touch since I had returned for a second trip. Again, the weather was lovely and again I enjoyed the beachside Gray d'Albion's restaurant. Instead of the breakfast at the hotel, I opted for lunches by the sand and can thoroughly recommend lunch cuisine by the sea at the Hotel Martinez and Carlton beach restaurants. Just stunning. Also enjoyed once again my little favourite Le Soleil down the far end of the beach strip. Took the train to the sweet little village of Biot which was very enjoyable and another day took the train again and had a great lunch at the Meridien Hotel facing the blue sea and sand at Juan Les Pins. A very peaceful holiday on my own enjoying the joys of Cannes and returning to the lovely Gray d'Albion. As usual the staff were friendly and professional and as usual I look forward to a swift return.

“Great Cannes Hotel”

Hotel Gray d'Albion

4 of 5 stars

My wife and I regularly stay in the Riviera and are often quite shocked at what the French pass off as allegedly 4 star hotels. Thus, I found the Gray D'Albion to be a revelation. It is a super hotel. First of all, the location is perfect. It is literally 10 seconds from the main designer shopping street, Rue D'Antibes - and is only around 100m from La Croisette and the beaches. There is also a Monoprix about 5 minutes walk away for those who wish to fill up the mini-bar with their own purchases. From the front the hotel is a nice modern building - 9 stories high and most rooms have balconies. We booked a deluxe room on the seventh floor with a balcony. It was very spacious with nice modern and clean decor. The bathroom was large with a great shower and nice toiletries provided. We also had a lovely view of Le Suquet from our balcony - complete with awning.
The public spaces in the hotel are nice, with a beautiful grand lobby and cosy bar. The hotel also has a private beach with waiter service. This is pricey (you have to pay for loungers, parasol, towels etc) but is well worth the luxury when in Cannes.
For those driving, there is a secure public car park underneath the hotel. I used it for one night - but at approx 20 odd euros per night it is pricey.
We did not take breakfast in the hotel. Instead I would reccomend using the boulangerie which is directly across from the hotel. Grab yourself a couple of croissants and sit out on your balcony - much better than the pricey 21 euros a head breakfast in the hotel.
Another nice touch in the hotel is the secure lift - you can only activate lifts with your room keycard.
All in all, this is a super hotel in Cannes. There are also lots of fabulous dining options around the back streets of the hotel.
