Hotel des Belles-Rives

Aug 30, 2008

We stayed here for 5 nights in July and had a fabulous time. The hotel overlooks the sea and has its own pier and beach. The hotel is old and has retained some of its art-deco period fittings and features. The rooms were spacious enough and had air-conditioning which we really needed. Lunch was delicious as were the drinks etc we had there. There was good water-skiing banana boats etc which were well run.

The Staff were fantastic - friendly and accommodating. Their restaurant recommendations were great. We ate at a wide range of restaurants at a wide range of prices. July and August are busy so I would advise booking in advance if you want to go somewhere specific.
Like a previous reviewer said, the hotel is eye wateringly expensive. You did need to reserve sun-beds and the cost was 25 euros per person per day. Breakfast which was a buffet was also 25 euros and we felt it wasoverpriced. We had breakfast out in local cafes which we enjoyed. Valet parking was also charged for. But this is the south of France and it is expensive so these costs are not exclusive to this hotel and shouldn't put you off going there.

We stayed at the Belles Rives for three nights in the middle of June. There was four of us, my husband and I had a Classic Cap Side Room with no seaview. The room was small but we spent such a limited amount of time in the room it didn't actually matter. Our friends had a Deluxe Sea View Room which they really liked. The balcony was small but they just liked being able to open the doors and look out over the bay.

While it wouldn't put us off going back, I do agree with other reviews about paying for the sun loungers, towels and parasols.... it does seem a little - well... cheap to charge residents. From what we could make out they get loads of non residents coming to spend the day on the beach so why not let them pay rather than guests who have already paid a tidy sum to stay there in the first place?

However, this is probably the worst thing about the hotel, but it is more than made up for by the friendly staff, the great lunch on the edge of the water, and while we very rarely eat dinner in hotel restaurants, their pretty candlelight terrace is absolutely stunning in the evening with the most wonderful view over the Med. Definitely worth giving a go for one evening.

During the day you don't really want to move off you sun bed (especially having paid for it!), but as you look out over the sea, with a glass of lovely cold Rose in your hand, well life can't be all that bad now can it?

Stayed there for 4 days with our 2 small kids and other family. Really enjoyed the hotel, location is very good, service as well, the rooms were very good if not huge. The only negative not so much the price for rooms but for everything else, bkfast, extra bed for kids at over 50 euros a night...but would probably go back.

Stayed here for 3 nights in September 2007 and enjoyed the stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated but small. The Hotel is decorated in an Art Deco style which I really liked and is close to the beach which is handy.
The downside of staying here is that everyting is extra such as 25 Euro's per lounger per day and 5 Euros for a towel. Due to a wasps nest we were unable to take breakfast outside so we went elsewhere for our breakfast. This is a problem which should have been resolved within 24 hours.

Juan les Pins itself is a fairly tacky resort but if you are looking for a few days relaxing on a beach it is fine and this hotel will do the job.

As a tip as come out of the back of the hotel take a left and after 200yards you will come across a beach which is free

Whilst we had a front room with sea view the room was small and terrace hardly large enough to stand up on let alone sit on. Best to try to check out the best rooms before you book, if possible.
Views from the hotel's terrace are superb and also from the front bedrooms. Food and wine about right for the price and very relaxed atmosphere.
Scandalous that in a hotel such as this you have to pay for your sun lounger, mattress, parasol AND towels on a daily basis. Several guests bought beach towels from local shops. One towel cost the same as one days' hire ! Also beware, you have to book your location on the sun terrace before you arrive otherwise you get put unceremoniously in the back rows away from the sea -- what a complete joke, especially as non-residents seemed to have booked the best places as a result of using the Hotel's facilities for a daily charge !
