Returned yesterday from Menton where we stayed for 4 days. Booked room with a sea view which was a good choice because the "mountain views" are at the back of the hotel and whilst you can see the mountains... it overhangs the road.. Our room (15) was clean, with excellent aircon - and large enough for us to feel it was value for money at £350 for 4 nights excluding breakfast (10eu per day per person).
The Hotel is on the front and the road is quite busy so its not exactly quite even with the double glazed doors shut - we found it OK though.
Hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the station and easy to find (we returned back to Nice airport on the Express Bus which you catch opposite the hotel and takes you to the terminal at a cost of 18eu each (some people did have tickets in advance which may be cheaper??)
Re breakfast there is a patisserie minutes from the hotel in the Menton direction where an addictive selection of croissants etc at around 1eu which meant breakfast in the hotel was skipped each day - it did look nice though.
The staff of the hotel could not have been better, all spoke English and seemingly several other languages and were quite happy to provide us with the room key even if I kept asked for room 50 in my best schoolboy French.
Hotel also offer a free beech towel service which we used.
All in all an excellent break - the restaurant to avoid is called Le Stanley, in the square closest to the sea on the left hand side of the square from the bottom - looked great but when we asked for a translation of 4 items (we spoke enough French to understand the other 20..) all the staff lost interest, kept us waiting, pretended not to hear or understand us - it was a total disgrace, my wife was almost in tears - worst eating experience ever in any country. Hope you get the message. Avoid at all costs if you are British - the German family next to us were served OK even though they asked similar questions. They were embaresed for us.
