Be very wary of reading other reviews of this hotel as it has been considerably updated. I have stayed here many times, and find the staff friendly and welcoming.
The roof top bar and terrace are lovely and, yes, the happy hour (5pm-6.30pm) is an excellent idea. Rooms I have always found to be spotless and well sized, and though most have balconies it should be said that those on the front on a lower floor can get some street noise.
The Louisiane restaurant provides a very decent breakfast, though dinner is of medium quality with a choice of 3 for each course. Again, though, service is friendly, and the brother and sister Bernard and Martine are charming.
Supermarkets and banks are less than 100m away, and the seafront is barely 200m. A better situated hotel would be hard to find in Menton. As a base for exploring the Cote d'Azur - and the Italian border is only 3km away - you could do a lot worse.

“A complete disaster for our holiday”

Hotel Mediterranee

Similar to one of thte other reviews, this place is old and tired, a bit dirty and in overall a dissapointing property. The beds were old, soft and sagged in the middle, like you might imagine one that you found in a back alley might sag. The A/C blew tepid and since we were thtere in July, we about fried. The bathrooms are tile, but are so old and grimy that I felt a bit nervous getting in the shower. The windows were horribly dirty, it was as if this place was nestled in the center of Bahgdad. The worst part of all was that the staff, actually the property manager was unhelpful in our time of need. My wife was 7+ months pregnant with twins when we were there and I advised him that the AC in the room was warm. He came up and showed me how to operate it and told me that the lowest setting was 18 celcius. We wnet out htat night and returned only to find it hotter in the room than outside. The simpleton had put it on 18 to save money as the unit went down to 16 celcius. it was so bad that we had tot move the beds across the room infront of the AC unit to try to stay cool. A colleague of mine told me thi splace was "so so" I woul dnot call it that at all. If you want to skimp, if you are backpacking it will be fine. If you have any sense or desire for above hostel accomodations, dont go to this place.

“Great hotel!”

Hotel Mediterranee

We have stayed at this hotel every year for the last 3 years.
We love Menton and find this hotel to be basic but clean, friendly and a great location for access to all parts on Menton.
We haven't eaten in the hotel restaurant as there are so many restaurants nearby but it appears to be popular with other guests.
There is a roof top bar which never gets too busy. We love to sit in it at night with a glass of wine and enjoy the fantastic views.

“Great Location”

This is a comfortable hotel in a good location for sea front, marina, shops and restaurants. We had a room on the third floor with a balcony which overlooked orange & lemon trees in next door's garden. It was clean and the room and bathroom had recently been updated. There is a restaurant on site which was good but there are many restaurants nearby to visit as well. The rooftop bar with sun loungers was very relaxing with Happy Hour from 5pm. We got a bus from Nice airport direct to Menton via Monaco which drops you off about 5 minutes walk from hotel. Going home we walked to Menton station (15 mins stroll) and got the train to Nice-Ville station spent some time in Nice and then got the bus which ran along the promenade to the airport which was cheaper than getting the bus direct from Menton but not as scenic. All in all a very good base to explore Menton and the Riviera.

“Tired and in need of renovation”

Hotel Mediterranee

This hotel is in a great location in the lovely Menton. However, the hotel is extremely tired and in need of substantial renovation. The hotel is aware of its elderly clientele and appears to have made no attempt in updating the hotel as a result. Whilst the decor is arguably a personal preference, no excuses can be made for the hairs that were found in the bed, the plug socket hanging off the wall and the dirty radiators in the room. I would not recommend this hotel at all.
