Stayed at Mercure Notre Dame from Jul 2 to 7, and were glad we did. Rooms were of impeccable standing with no noise coming in at night, even though we were centrally located near a main shopping avenue. Breakfast was included in our rate and was varied and complete, allowing us to even skip lunch - remember Nice is expensive! Service everywhere with a smile and efficient.
We had rented a car in Marseille, but would recommend travellers to use the excellent train service which is both economical and frequent, getting you to the quaintest villages in the Riviera in comfort. From the hotel, the both the bus station and train stations are within walking distance. We left our car in the hotel parking lot which presented a difficulty to get our car up the steep ramp to exit. Even though our rental was automatic shift, the brakes don't work as in NA and you can roll back dangerously! Not to mention the parking was expensive (60 euros for 5 nights).
Coming back to the hotel, it even has a rooftop pool and bar, which we checked out but didn't use though it looked tempting!
All around, an excellent hotel to stay in if you want NA-style comfort while saving some money to spend on the wonderful restaurants and sights in the city. We looked forward to this home away from home after a day filled with sightseeing and swimming.
