Having read the positive reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked a short break in November at Le Grimaldi on the hotel’s own website. We availed of their excellent value 3-night Winter Package - for €93 per night we got B&B, a complimentary bottle of Taittinger champagne and dinner for two at the adjacent Restaurant Luc Salsedo (very good).
The hotel itself is on a quiet street, but within a 5 minute walk of the bustling Rue Massena and a further 5 minutes to the seafront or the old town. It’s a small hotel with limited facilities, breakfast is served in the lobby area and the bar was hardly used during our stay.
Our classic room was reasonably spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom met the wife’s exacting standards and everything worked as required. TV has 3 english language channels - BBC World, Sky News & Eurosport. Buffet breakfast was perfectly adequate. Staff had excellent English and were friendly and helpful - making restaurant bookings, ordering taxis etc..
We will definitely return.
Eating out:
Good pizza at Le Quebec on Rue Massena. Plenty of affordable options around the town.
Restaurant Luc Salsedo (part of package) beside hotel - a very short menu (€40 for 3 courses) but excellent quality.
“La Petite Maison” on edge of the old town - was an interesting, almost theatrical, dining experience. Food was very good, though service dropped off somewhat as the place filled up after 9pm. Lots of air-kissing regulars/poseurs and Madam runs the place like a ring-master. Although they forgot our coffee, we enjoyed the ambience and will return.
