“A perfect budget hotel!”

Hotel Star

5 of 5 stars
Tel Aviv, Israel
Jul 23, 2008

Spent 2 nights in July, on a weekend, 80 Euro for a night.
A perfect little hotel, 2 minutes walk from the main street Avenue Jean Medicin, where the tram runs, and connects to all transportation.
Very easy to find the hotel, on a nice little street. The front desk was extremely helpful, the room was nice and clean, with wi-fi internet (if you carry a laptop), and a free-to-use internet computer on the lobby.
The breakfast was very basic, with cornflakes, croissant and bread, butter and jam for 7 Euro, expensive for my taste, but pretty common in France.
Overall - a very nice hotel, perfect location, good value for money

“Be careful with bed bugs, and rude lady”

Hotel Star

Jun 19, 2008

This hotel is not but, considering the "unique mentality" that people in Nice have, it is unusual to have very friendly and helpful men in front.
However, our room had a bed bug and we had to go to hostpital, it gave scars on the skin even after few month.

And front lady is very rude, she would refuse to speak English. Even this kind of atitude is quite normal among Nicois(people from Nice), but she is the one who is cleaning too, I guess.
And the bed was not enough cleaned, I am afraid that was the reason why they got bed bug.

Didn't like this old lady and dirty bed, but if you stay in single room this should be avioded.

“Excellent Budget Hotel”

Hotel Star

Mar 5, 2008

This is a great budget hotel in an expensive town. The staff were very friendly and helpful and recommended great places to eat and local attractions.

The rooms were very clean. The hotel is in a good location, central and close to tram and bus lines, and shops, with a big supermarket at the end of the street. Breakfast was light but fresh and tasty.

If you are planning to stay in your bedroom a lot this is not the hotel for you - rooms are not very attractive with carpeted walls! But there is a shower and tv so after a hard day's sightseeing it has all you need in my opinion!

The only bad thing is we were in a room on the road I was woken up by the rubbish lorry at 4am so if you're a light sleeper you might want to bring earplugs, or else get a room at the back.

“Colorful characters, perfect location, but not easy to find!”

Hotel Star

Nov 9, 2007

We truly enjoyed our experience this October at the Hotel Star in Nice. Positives include the two men who run the desk, who are always friendly and funny and helpful. Amazingly they allowed us to park our Fiat Panda right at the front door!

We were given the corner room on the 1st floor above the street. At first we were a bit concerned that it could be noisy, because there is a bistro below us, and we were right on the corner of the street. And we had three very tall windows too. But we found that the windows insulate the room well, and if you also close the shutters, any other sound is quickly muffled. The traffic seems pretty light anyway.

The room has a comfortable bed, and a good large bathroom with room to move around. The hot water was plentiful. The linens are very fresh and clean, and the fixtures as clean as their slightly dated condition would allow. The building is old, and I agree with a previous poster that the carpet on the stairs seems to need a good cleaning.

Breakfast is served 7:30am to 9:30am and consisted of two crossants (excellent quality) and several pieces of baguette, along with honey and jam. The coffee was very good, and the orange juice seemed fresh. But that is the extent of breakfast. Still, it's free...

WiFi is available and the connection is fast enough to use Skype with no trouble. Just ask for the connection key from the desk. We had no trouble connecting.

We walked down to the ocean in about 20 minutes (moving slowly). Also, we walked to the train station and made a day trip to Monaco. The walk to the train station was about 20 minutes as well.

Most of our meals were made from provisions purchased at the Monoprix at the end of the street - maybe a 5 minute walk. Decent prices and a very wide range of items made it fun to shop. Remember to get your fruit weighed by the lady in the fruit area - she will put a price sticker on it for you. That will save you the embarrassment of holding up the checkout line like I did! :)

Please get very good maps and make sure you understand your directions before you get tangled up on the small one-way streets in old Nice. We had quite a few anxious moments since I had printed out directions using Via Michelin, but didn't print the pictures. Ended up stopping at a gas station and spending 8.50 euros on a good map of Nice. Well worth it!

We used Venere to book the hotel online, and paid 60 euros and I think that is a good value.

“Great Staff”

Hotel Star

Oct 30, 2007

I booked this room based on the reviews on TripAdvisor. We were on a budget and most of the hotels towards the promenade were expensive and there was no availability. We took a taxi from the airport...but later found the city bus and took that on the return trip. Much cheaper. When we arrived at the hotel, our taxi driver warned us not to speak to anyone on the street, as it was a bad area for drugs. The street was a bit rundown, but it was close to a shopping center and Monoprix. The staff speaks excellent English and were very helpful. We wanted to leave after one night as the bathroom was extremely small and the shower was growing a lot of mold. But, because we booked online for three nights, we were told we had to stay for two nights or be charged anyways. The room was very old and the walls were cracking. I expected the rooms in Nice to be somewhat old, but I thought they'd at least be in fairly good condition. After the two nights, we switched to another hotel a couple of streets down which was only 20 Euro more and in fabulous condition and a much better area. I would not stay again or suggest to friends.
