“Fabulous!”

Armenonville Hotel

Jun 5, 2008

We (2 single ladies) spent 8 nights at this charming hotel. We were very impressed with the staff. Everyone was warm and friendly and could not have been more accommodating. We even received some help with our French!

Our room was clean and spacious and was immaculately serviced every day. The air conditioning and TV worked well and there was lots of hot water for showers. The garden is a lovely place to take breakfast or just to sit and relax.

The location was great. It was an easy walk to the Promenade des Anglais and the Old City. Also, there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants near the hotel so we did not need taxis or buses. The train station was also only about a 10 minute walk so day trips to Cannes and Monaco were very easy. At night, the hotel is very quiet so we always slept well.

There was an error in our bill that I did not discover until I got home but all I had to do was send one email to the hotel and the problem was rectified with no hassle at all.

I would definitely return to this hotel and highly recommend it.

When my wife and I came to its front gate, we could hardly believe we had come to a hotel, but rather, maybe a hidden villa in a quiet nook of the city. When the big two-piece metal gate swung open to let us in, what first met our eyes and greeted our nostrils were a row of gardenia and other big blooming flowers. Our car slowly rolled into the quiet, fragrant courtyard. To call this place a hotel will deprive it the warm homely atmosphere. I would rather call it a nice-sized B & B (with an impressive marble staircase). Yes, the house showed signs of old age, and our room looked kind of spartan, but it's clean, quiet, and, it is just a two-star accomodation. For those who're looking for conveniences such as elevators and more central location, there're quite a lot up-end hotels along Promenade Des Angllais. Anyway we enjoyed staying in Armenonville more than in three-star hotels in other cities, where we paid much more. Also, this hotel might not be right in the center of the city, but is still quite conveniently central, and, it is in a decent neighborhood.

“Mixed Feelings!”

Armenonville Hotel

This hotel is situated in a lovely little garden and would be particualry great if travelling with smaller children. We had a top level room overlooking garden which was nice, room was ok size, however beds were a little on the small side - My husband and i were travelling with our 15 year old son. Access to internet was good. Breakfast was lovely - but at 9 euro's each - 27 euro for breakfast just was not worth it. Would have preferred less stuff for cheaper price. Pricing of hotel room was fair ! I did not feel ripped off at all - Room was very clean. The thing i felt let this place down was sometimes you felt like you were intruding into the owners private home. They live on the ground floor. The cleaning staff at this hotel were some of the friendliest i have come across after travelling for 8 weeks through Europe they bent over backwards to help you.

Sorry for the dog. He is here to make the guarding, night and day. During the night, Major does not bark, he grumbles to warn us movements in the hall, the car park and the garden. Thank you very much for your understanding.

“Unauthorized double credit card charges”

Armenonville Hotel

Sep 10, 2007

Worst hotel we have ever stayed at anywhere. Hotel charged our credit card twice for our stay. Owner initially claimed innocence, tried to get out of it in several emails - I have absolute proof of both charges etc. - left it to my credit card company to resolve. We tried to check in first day for 100pm as per website check-in time - people were still in our room. Owner was not too troubled by this. We sat in non-air conditioned lobby for three hours while owner joked with some of the large number of people from the room who would come down then return to room. Owner would not provide different room. There was no discount or anything else offered for our trouble after a long flight - we needed to rest in our room. We then had to carry our bags up three flights of stairs without help. Owner would not allow us to pull wheeled bags up the stairs as she was worried about damaging stairs - but was indifferent to our backs. We arrived at semi-clean run down room. There was a large still wet ([--]?) stain on bedspread. Bathroom floor was soaking wet and the garbage had not been emptied. Beds uncomfortable, pillows lumpy. Required to leave room key on hook unattended in lobby when we went out. No staff sits in lobby as there is an office somewhere else. Very unsafe practice. I could have entered anyone else's room with their key. Would be better if keys are left with staff at front desk like other hotels or keep them yourself. Use of internet was 10 euros - although we were only there two days, lots of extra charges for everything - lame breakfast etc. - buy breakfast in town anywhere. This hotel is not a value after all the extra charges are added up. No english channels on TV and only two french channels - one was very fuzzy - unwatchable. Further from beach than website describes. Stayed at eleven hotels in France and Italy on this vacation. This is the only one we had a bad experience in. I wrote several extremely positive reviews of other hotels you will see on this site and others. This Armenonville place was ridiculous - I don't understand the good reviews - very suspicious. This is a run-down, poorly managed hotel far from the beach and interesting sites. Not worth it at all. Buyer beware!!!

I never had guests of so bad faith! I remember very well this lady with her daughter. So, I would like to answer to the most important points :
- First of all, yes, I made a mistake, because, when they left, I forgot to deduct the deposit. As soon as I received their claim, I answered that I had to check it first. And then, I asked for their bank account details to refund the amount of 97 Euros. They did not accept it and they spoke to me as to a swindler, while I have never refused to pay off. My banker thus credited their credit card on my order.
- Check in time has never been 10.00 AM ! They stayed in the hall, while the garden was at their disposal (seats, beds for garden, parasols..). They were very unpleasant during this wait.
- It was impossible to give another room as the hotel was full
- As soon as the room was available, 2 maids began immediately to clean it and that’s why the floor was still a little bit wet when they arrived in the room.
- When old persons need our help, we carry suitcases. These persons were not really old (I am older ! ), and so unpleasant with all the staff! The room was on the 2nd floor, it is not so high !
- Keys are under permanent surveillance thanks to all our cameras installed in the hall and in all the property generally and which record any movement. Our gate is closed night and day.
- Wi-fi is free in all the hotel, in the hall, in the rooms and in the garden, but if you need a computer, it costs 10 Euros per stay and you can use it as long as you want, night and day. The persons how use it just a few minutes don’t pay.
- 1 breakfast for 9 Euros, served in the room, or in the garden : bread, "croissant, pain au chocolat, brioche aux raisins", cheese, marmalade, butter, orange juice, yaourt and hot drink : is it expensive ?
- the hotel is not on the main road : that is the reason why it is very quiet, even if we are in the center of Nice. Because, WE ARE IN THE CENTER OF NICE ! The city code is 06000, that is to say “CENTER OF NICE”. We are at 300 meters from the Promenade des Anglais and at about 10 minutes, from the walking streets. We are in the russian area, not too far from the russian church that is one of the most famous place to visit in Nice, closed to the “Fine Art Museum : Musee Cheret”. And in Nice, there are buses that go everywhere in the city. The nearest one is at about 50 meters from the hotel gate, in our street !

“Just FANTASTIC - A little diamond - DO STAY HERE”

Armenonville Hotel

The hotel is magnificent in every way. The moment I found this hotel I thought to myself “it looks everything French”, a little French Chateau in the middle of all the other houses and hotels.
It has its own garden to eat breakfast in and as for the breakfast – simple but very continental. The room I stayed in overlooked the breakfast garden and what a joy that was to see every morning. It has very clean shower and bathroom facilities – what more do you need. I paid in the region of 98euros a night but in my experience, well worth it.
Do yourself a favour and book this hotel, you won’t be sorry. It’s just lovely.
Oh and another thing – book direct [--]
