“Great location, ok hotel.”

Boscolo Plaza

My wife and I stayed at the Plaza for 3 nights in April. Having read negative comments re standard rooms on Tripadvisor, we opted to upgrade to a Deluxe room, paying €155 per night B&B.

The hotel is ideally located, just a short stroll from the sea and the old town. The hotel has probably seen better days and better clientele, but the public areas seemed generally fine.

Our 5th floor Deluxe room was reasonably spacious, comfortable and clean. The “Deluxe” bit was the balcony, with 2 sun loungers, table & 2 chairs and electric awning, with a lovely view across the small Albert 1er Park to the sea. It was a real sun-trap and we made considerable use of the balcony during our stay.
TV had 2 English language channels - CNN & Eurosport. No tea/coffee-making facility and no bathrobes/slippers, which one might expect in a “Deluxe” room.
We didn’t see into any other rooms, so we can only comment on our own.

Breakfast is served in the basement - a reasonably well-stocked self-service buffet. However, the “hot” food - scrambled egg, sausages, rashers - was never better than tepid.

We didn’t have any other meals in the hotel, but the rooftop terrace did seem to be reasonably popular at lunchtime. A 3-hour “happy Hour” in the hotel bar didn’t seem to entice many takers. It was generally very quite, often empty.

Eating Out: We ate at
Rest. Villa d’Este, Rue Massena - buzzy Italian eaterie, inexpensive.
Rest. Luc Salsedo, Rue Maccarani - short table d’hote menu, but interesting, enjoyable food.
La Maison de Marie, Rue Massena - good seafood.
A couple of other places recommended by a knowledgeable acquaintance, which we didn’t get to try this trip: Bistrot du Port, down by the port, and Bistrot d’Antoine, Rue de la Prefecture, in the old town.

Airport Transport: we got ripped off on the taxi ride from the airport. The airport bus (98) stops just about 50 metres from the front door of the Plaza, runs every 20 minutes, drops you at the terminal door and costs €4. Just check whether your flight is departing from T1 or T2, the bus stops at both.

“basic 2 star room”

Boscolo Plaza

Apr 14, 2008

stayed for 2 nights as i was attending a conference. The room furniture was very basic, the bed was uncomfortable. the bathroom was okay, the room was clean but shabby with horrible brown carpet.
the breakfast was okay.
the loacation is central.
i have stayed at the meridien and the raddisson previously, it seems that hotels in the french riviera are all basic. I await the opening of four seasons there.
as for cafes and restaurants there are many. be careful though, if ur dish is not satisfactory and not to ur liking, u can not but pay for it. I had a bad experience at La Lorraine, 16 rue halevy: the burger i ordered was frozen in the middle. i had no trust to return it and have it cooked again and brought on the same plate! the manager was abrupt and rude. i paid and left feeling bad and grateful that i live in London.

“Disappointing”

Boscolo Plaza

Mar 31, 2008

We were expecting a lot for this 4star hotel. However our standard double room was very disappointing. It did not look anything like their website photos. The furniture and finishings were old. The room was in desperate need of a reno/update. I would not pay the same rate to stay in a room like that. However, the location was ideal (close to beach and old town).

“Business trip in Nice”

Boscolo Plaza

4 of 5 stars
Budapest
Mar 19, 2008

I needed a hotel for 6 of my colleagues and myself in Nice last february. Luckily or not so luckily we were on business during the time of the famous carnival so it was not easy to find rooms but finally i managed it with a very helpful lady from the reservation team of Boscolo.
At the end she even offered some rooms with complimentary upgrades to sea-view rooms and I was lucky enough to get one of the rooms on the top floor, with huge balcony, overlooking a beautiful park and the sea!
Some of the rooms are a bit worn, but there are also some fully refurbished in nice cream colors. Only negativism maybe that the walls are extremly thin, so people talking loud on the corridors or watching tv right next to you might be disturbing...
Breakfast was ok, nothing special, but staff was very helpful, friendly throughout my whole stay.
Hotel has excellent location, not on the Promenade, so not so noisy, shops, cafés, restaurants, everything in walking distance, and even with rental car its not a big deal to find your way from/to the airport.
I think its a good choice and good value for your money!

“Excellent weekend break”

Boscolo Plaza

5 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom

My husband and I have just returned from a few days away in Nice, staying at the Hotel Boscolo Plaza. This hotel is in an excellent position, just behind the Albert Gardens, and a few minutes walk from the Promenade des Anglais, the Vieille Ville, the Cours Saleya and the pedestrian shopping streets. We had a large superior room on the second floor, with a small balcony from which we could glimpse the sea through the trees. The bathroom was a good size with a separate room off housing the bidet and toilet. The buffet breakfast included in the price was very satisfying with a varied selection. I particularly liked the fact that there was a choice of full, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, all clearly marked.
There were so many restaurants within walking distance, that it would have been possible to stay a month and still eat at a different one every night. All budgets were catered for. There were bus and tram stops practically outside the door. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we would certainly return to this hotel.
