“OK Stay”

Hotel Aria

4 of 5 stars
Redlands, California
Jul 16, 2007

My husband and I stayed at the Aria in Nice for 2 nights. We booked it based on a France guidebook. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, so we had no difficulty getting situated. We had read of the terrible driving conditions in Nice, but we did not have that problem because it was Sunday. The parking structure was directly across from the hotel, but when we checked in the receptionist said he had 3 spaces on the street right in front of the hotel door (much cheaper), so we parked our car there for the duration. Our first room was not adequately air conditioned, and when we complained we were moved immediately to an acceptable room. You definitely want air conditioning in the summer! We would not have been able to stay in the first room, and there would have been quite a scene if they did not have an available room. Overall the hotel was comfortable and clean. It had a tiny elevator, but it worked! We had a decent breakfast one of the mornings because I needed lots of coffee to get going. Friends had told us not to stay in Nice, but my husband and I loved it. We are good walkers and enjoyed the old town, the promenade, and the trip to Monaco. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes away from the promenade and the old town and about 5 minutes from the train station. Some would probably want to be closer to the beach, but those hotels were much more expensive. It was a typical big city impersonal hotel but quite adequate for the price.

We had read the review of July 13th on this website just prior to leaving for Nice and had some reservations in staying there, so we had a back up option just in case. We are so happy we didn't cancel our reservation. Hotel Aria was a real find and value. We were on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the park, in a room that was large compared to most. The staff was wonderful! We ended up booking another night on the end of our trip. The train station is just a short walk, and everything was basically within walking distance. In our opinion, Hotel Aria is a winner!!
Give it a try!

“Look elsewhere!”

Hotel Aria

We were disappointed with this hotel as soon as we arrived. The promised non-smoking room was not available, and the property could be compared to a Motel 6 or Travelodge. Rooms are clean, location is good, but the overall ambience leaves much to be desired. The pix we saw online were misleading. We had booked 3 nights thru Venere, and decided to leave after two. The manager refused to give us a refund, telling us that Venere does not allow it. Upon examining Venere's policy, I discovered that the refund was at the discretion of the hotel. I contacted the hotel again, quoting Venere's written policy, requesting the refund for the third night, but to no avail. I recommend you search for a better property, with more ethical management.

“Nice experience in a nice hotel”

Hotel Aria

Location is EXCELLENT : very close to the railroad station (which enables you to quickly reach monaco, cannes, vintimiglia and all the french riviera) and reasonably close to the very famous promenade des anglais (seaside).

Hotel people and friendly and professional.

Beware of room finishing with 7 (107, 207...) which are very small with a poor view. Other rooms are great, althouth not really charmful.

Breakfast is too expansive for its value. and no shower curtain which makes it technically hard to get comfortable and multiple showers each day.

A nice experience, but not a "coup de coeur".

Our room was on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the green park. Room was small but very clean and comfortable. The shower had no curtain so the whole bathroom got wet. Staff was very friendly and professional. Breakfast was very tasty but not worth the 9 Euros.
