“so difficult to rate!”

Hotel Royal Riviera

Aug 11, 2008

It is so difficult to rate this Hotel. It is beautiful and definetly above Cote d'Azur standards. But the attitude of the staff and the shoe-box size of the rooms really let it down.
We paid 840 Euros per night excluding breakfast for our room. The room was beautiful (in the Orangerie) but not really worth this large amount of money. Our friend's room was EUR 625 exckuding breakfast and measured 20 sqm max! It was ok, but nothing special.
But then again you have a nice pool, a private beach for which you don't have to cross a busy road but can be accessed directly. You have nice people working in the Spa and by the Pool but the most terrible staff at the reception and particular as the Concierge. Despite the already high prices they charge (75 Euro for 2 Whisky) they still try to add things to your bill which they cannot proof you had. For a Hotel in this price category and a member of the Leading Hotels of the World one should not have to ask for a calculater at check-out just to find out that they cannot even add up your final bill. Its these maybe minor things that can really jeapordise your entire stay. Therefore, we don't know whether we should reccommend the Hotel because of its beautiful location or whether we should tell people not to go because of the unprofessionalism of its staff.

“This one is OVER-RATED!”

Hotel Royal Riviera

We stayed at the Royal Riviera for one night because we flew into Nice from Paris and was boarding a cruise the next day in Monte Carlo. I researched this hotel so well because we would only be staying one night I wanted to make sure everything was PERFECT! (Actually, due to bad reviews of another hotel in Nice, I cancelled that one and booked this one). Well, when we arrived at the Royal Riviera at about 5pm our room was not available! They made us wait about 45 minutes but they did buy us a drink at the bar. I booked via leading hotels of the world ( I am a member) and paid with our Amex Platinum card so I was expecting maybe a room upgrade and/or a late check out since it is part of the membership benefits. Well, I am disappointed to say that not only did they not have our room ready by 5pm but they told us we must check out by noon and they absolutely cannot give us a room upgrade or late check out. We begged to keep the room until 1pm but it was a firm NO! Our "standard" room was tiny and the bed was right up against the door. There was no room for all of our luggage. The cleaning ladies decided to vacuum the hallway right outside our room around 7am! I have stayed in hotels all throughout Europe and NEVER had a room so tiny nor had been woken up by the cleaning ladies. Thank God it was only 1 night!

“Beautiful Hotel”

Hotel Royal Riviera

Jul 10, 2008

Royal Rivera is a beautiful hotel, not very small thou)). The restaurant is fantastic, buffet lunch is very very good. We did not use the pool that much, but I find the beach very good for this side of Mediterenian. I do not know why some people complain on the beach and what they expect on French Rivera. The whole rivera is very tightly booked and it is very rare to find a hotel with a private beach. The hotel is very quiet, rooms are small but nicely decorated, reception is very very helpful and dining is top quality. I did not find it that expensive for this part of the world either, but it is probably not a very good idea to plan a trip to Rivera Hotel on a budget. Cap Feorrat is a really quiet place with a couple of restaurants to go out, but in 20 min. drive you can go out in Nice or Monacco at any way you want, so, I do not share the opinion that it is a boring destination all together. It is different from lively night life places, but that's just a different way of enjoying the place. The beach prominade is breathtaking! We come back to RR every year in August for romantic holliday and we love the place and the hotel.

“A great stay at the Royal Riviera !!”

Hotel Royal Riviera

5 of 5 stars
Hertfordshire
Apr 3, 2008

We have just returned from a 4 night break at the Royal Riviera. The hotel was just as good as we had hoped it would be, starting with great service from welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Closely followed by delicious breakfasts, cosy bars and wonderful views.
The layout of the hotel and amenities worked really well and had everything we needed for a luxury break and have come to expect from Leading Hotels Of The World.
Our only 'watch out' would be when we asked reception to get us a taxi for the return journey to the airport it cost us 85 euros !!! as they appear to use a chauffer style company rather than the typical French Riviera taxi company you get outside Nice Airport (which cost us 50 euros and was a later model, more luxurious Mercedes car).
We would also recommend Les Argves Restaurant opposite the train station in Beaulieu Sur Mer - again food and service second to none. We had their 5 course dinner, each dish was fresh local produce and very tasty. They welcomed our 11 year old daughter, were happy to change the menu to suit her tastes and made her feel like a princess. It was our favourite restaurant and meal throughout our stay in St Jean Cap Ferrat.

“very dissapointing”

Very dissapointing due to the totally misleading brochure on the hotel website. Do not expect bright modern rooms. The rooms are very dark and are looking very tired. They need updating and a good clean. They are nothing like the brochure portrays. This hotel should not be classed as a member of the small leading hotels in the world especially for the prices they charge!
