“Understated class”

I have just returned from a wonderful short break with my wife at the Royal Riviera. I work in the travel industry and i have travelled extensively throughout the world and i have to say this is one of my favorite places.

I love the tranquility and the quiet understated class. This is the place for people who have it but don't flaunt. Yes it is expensive but then so is everything on the French Riviera.

Probably the best time to go would be end of June just before high season kicks in. You'll get better rates and the probability of v. good weather.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Royal Riviera in June. Overall, we were satisfied. This was our second trip to St. Jean Cap Ferrat so we already know the area and chose the Royal Riviera based on its location. It's between Beaulieu and St. Jean and very close to the train station. It's also just a 5 minute drive to Villefranche. The hotel is very nice and the service was good. The only real complaint we have is with the breakfast. Service could have been much better there.

One thing we did while we were in St. Jean was the walk around the cape and it was fantastic! It's a must-do if you like walking. The views are amazing and most of the trail is literally carved along the slope around the cape with lots of built-in stone stairs and paths. It takes about 2 hours and it's a very enjoyable way to get some exercise.

Last year, we stayed at La Voile d'Or which we also like and if we were to go back, we would probably stay there instead of the Royal Riviera.

Stayed at the hotel in June as I attended a wedding in the area. The hotel is nice and looks like it has just been redone. The pool area is good too with a good food area close by.

The room was on the small side. Although well appointed and the bathroom was very clean. The free Wi-Fi was an added bonus, but was the only value the hotel offered.

Prices at the hotel are ridiculous both for the room and the food. For example, a club sandwich by the pool costs EUR24! Rooms in the area are outrageously priced, but at least this hotel offers quality for the money, some of the others are expensive for poor quality.

“A very pleasant hotel.”

Great location, for exploring by foot or car. Avoid the mountain view rooms, which over look the train tracks... though the trains are much quieter than british clankers... Our room was well decorated, a good size, and in good order... No separate shower, clock radio or DVD system... but the charm of the hotel overcame the little niggles.

We had a deluxe sea and garden view room... Morning sun and a view of Eze and the delightful little town Beaulieu sur mer. Go the patisserie and fruit and veg market in Beaulieu and have a delicious coffee in the cafe right next to the hotel on the beach for less than €3.

Staff were very helpful and pool area is lovely.

“Solid but not spectacular”

Hotel Royal Riviera

We stayed two nights at the Royal Riviera. Based on reviews of Tripadvisor contributors, we opted for an ocean view room, as the other rooms look over train tracks. We were pretty disappointed with the deluxe ocean view room. The one window was small and you had to stand in front of it to see the ocean. The décor is very dark and, while nice enough, far from stunning. We were hoping for a more high-end type of room that we could enjoy lounging around. As a result, we wished we stayed in the cheaper room (the view is not as bad as it sounded). The public areas of the hotel are pretty contained – a small lobby and a small bar. However, the pool area is lovely, although not much use in Feb. Service was below average for this type of hotel; you really had to push to get help on things like where to go/maps/information. Up until our dinner, we had concluded that our first stay would be our last at the RR. The dinner, a bargain prix fix at 49 Euro, was absolutely fabulous. If you do nothing else – eat there. The other plus about the hotel was its location. It is right next to the start of the Cap Ferrat walking path that lines the perimeter of the peninsula. Walking along this path was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is also close (5 min walk) to the train station and restaurants of Beaulieu Sur Mer. We will definitely be back to Cap Ferrat, but next time we will try either the Grand or La Reserve.
