“quaint hotel in a stunning setting”

Hotel Le Saint Paul

4 of 5 stars

Jun 3, 2008

The village of Saint Paul Du Vence must be one of the most beautifull in Europe and this hotel compliments the village perfectly. Small, quaint and beautiful, this hotel is a joy.

Our room was small and overlooked the winding village street .Decorated and presented in a manner that adds to the whole St Paul experience. The bathroom is spotlessly clean with bathrobes, white fluffy towels and a good selection of toiletries.

Each afternoon the Hotel provides complimentery afternoon tea with a selection of sweets and pastries prepared by the Hotel Chef.

The Michelin Star restaurant is very expensive but well worth the experience ( once ) more than one evening would cost a small fortune. The village has a good selection of small restaurants all to a high quality. The Hotel bar is very dissappointing unable to provide Gin and Tonic ( not good).

Driving to the Hotel is a nightmare, Parking at peak season would be almost impossible. However generally this is a perfect small hotel in the most beautifull setting.

Well worth a visit.

“Noisy and rude”

Hotel Le Saint Paul

Stayed here for 3 nights in April 2008. The restaurant is wonderful. The room was big and nicely decorated, but hot and stuffy because the hotel hadn't yet turned off the heat. We had to sleep with the window open (there was only one window). Because it is a walled city, the streets are very narrow and act as a megaphone- very very loud. Thank goodness the town shuts down at 9 PM or so. The noise inside the hotel, however never ended. All the surfaces are stone and there are precious few rugs or tapestries in the hotel. There was an incredible about of banging about- from the kitchen, wait staff and other hotel personnel. Really unnecessary. The staff is also quite unhelpful and rude. We will not return.

“great Hotel & Great Location”

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife in September 2007 in the Honeymoon suite and it was worth every penny with great views over the valley. The hotel itself is in a great location and the staff were extremely attentive without being annoying.
The standard rooms are small and I took a previous reviewers advice of booking a larger room which I would recommend.
We ate here for 1 night and the food is excellent whilst the courtyard where dinner and breakfast is served is wonderfull.
The only downside is that after a day exploring it was not possible to have a drink outside in the courtyard as it is reserved for diners.
In the evening Paul de Vence is deserted and you feel like you have the whole town to yourself as you wander through the cobbled streets.

“great place...but avoid peak season!”

Hotel Le Saint Paul

Nov 2, 2007

We just stayed there for three nights and really enjoyed it. We had a beautiful, large room with a big bath. It overlooked the town which basically means you look out over a ten foot wide pedestrian street and right at other buildings. It has a beautiful restaurant, with great food and service.

Access to the hotel is challenging given no parking and during the peak season the town is really packed. We were there in October which worked out fine, but summer crowds could drive hotel guests nuts. The town can be seen in half a day so if you are visiting the area in the summer I'd recommend you stay some distance away and do a day trip and have lunch on the hotel's terrace. Off season, a one or two night stay is well worth it.

“super hotel, great location, good staff”

I always write a review of any hotel we stay, and its not very often do I have 'no compaints' The hotel is charming, well run, clean, suitable for anyone, except persons with walking difficulties, The breakfast, on the patio, the afternoon teas and cakes,(all included the price) the little extras in the rooms, the free drinks etc etc, You will find the staff most helpful, they got us a car hire delevered to the hotel, they are polite and friendly, the location is in a 14 century walled village on top of a hill, the village is quaint and has many little shops mainly arty crafty type, (about 50) several cafes and restaurants, getting to the hotel is a little difficult, and interesting, but the taxi drivers at the bottom of the village, will take you and your cases up the hill, navigate down a very narrow street to your Hotel. The coast is a mere 20 minutes away, and do visit The Royal beach restaurant in Antibes(on the beach left hand side)its excellent., I would also mention that the hotel Le saint Paul has an excellant restaurant, a rather fussy menu, but non the less, very good.
A lovely way to spend 3 or 4 days, you will enjoy it, if you hire a car a look around the area ,so much more, even Nice, busy, but well worth a visit, but I prefer to stay outside at St Paul , near Vence
a mere 25 mins away from Nice.
Do try and met the manager, who likes to greet his guests in person, a charming man, and someone who cares about his Hotel.
