Following is copy of letter I sent to Hotel:
This past Monday, my family and I had dinner at your restaurant.
Having eaten there in the past, we were looking forward to an enjoyable evening consisting of fine food and wonderful ambience.
The restaurant was as beautiful as ever and the food was more than satisfactory.
What ruined the evening for us were the Maitre’ D and the Sommelier.
The table of four next to us asked the Maitre’ D if the special entrée of the evening could be had as an appetizer. Reluctantly, he agreed.
We then asked for the same accommodation. He was very unpleasant about allowing us the same courtesy. He then became very perfunctory and went about his routine as if by route rather than trying to be pleasant.
The Sommelier, after he took the order for a bottle of wine and some sparkling water, never came back to the table after the initial pouring of the wine to refill the goblets. My wife ended up pouring the wine.
The servers, likewise, seemed not to be interested in making our meal an enjoyable experience. Rather, they appeared to “just be doing their job”.
We were able to observe the Maitre’ D and the Sommelier apparently enjoying some private joke or moment, but their smiles disappeared whenever they entered the lower dining room where we were seated next to the fountain. All diners in the lower dining room appeared to be foreigners from one country or another. I do not believe that there were any French citizens in the room, though many of the people dining spoke French, as does my wife and daughter.
This dinner for three, cost us nearly $600 US dollars, which by any standard, is a large amount of money
I wanted to bring this situation to your attention, so that others in the future will not have to encounter a similar problem.
For restaurant of Michelin recognition, this type of service is unacceptable
