Villa St Maxime lived up to its reputation and more!
Accomodation is superb but the whole experience is enhanced by the attentive hosts Ann and John + all the staff. A holiday here is something to be remembered with great pleasure.
The Villa's public rooms and terraces are beautiful with views across the valley and down to the sea. St Paul is a short walk uphill and any trips further afield can be made easily by the local bus which travels from Vence to Nice for the cost of 1euro!
We found our way to Monaco and back, down to Antibes and up to Vence without the hassle of the hired car and essential sat nav.
This is a very special place and nobody will be disappointed if Villa St Maxime is their choice.

We stayed here for three nights recently. Hosts and owners Ann and John are helpful and entertaining, and attract an interesting clientele. Great location, just down the hill from the charming walled medieval enclave of St Paul de Vence. Comfortable, charming rooms with great views.

All in all, just about perfect for a restful stay in the Cote-d'Azur.

“A little piece of heaven”

Villa St. Maxime

Mar 29, 2008

My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay in a seaview room at the Villa. The setting of the Villa is just spectacular - the views are amazing and the Villa very comfortable and well furnished and spotlessly clean. The owners and hosts Ann & John made us feel very at home. At the time of our stay some of their friends were staying at the Villa but we were still made to feel very welcome and asked to join the party at pre-dinner drinks. We have travelled a great deal and it is unusual to find a place that you want to return to and also not to find any fault with. If I was to be really negative I would say that you can hear some traffic noise from the main road on which the Villa is situated. However, this was not a problem at nightime. The village has wonderful restaurants and has a charm all of it's own - as does the Villa! When I visit the South of France again a stay at the Villa will most definitely be on my itinerary

This is just a terrific place. John and Ann are great hosts and you feel very much at home. Great place to explore Cote d'Azur, but less croweded that other locations.

We visited Villa St. Maxime in late Sept. We found the Villa to be bright, airy, modern and very clean. Upon arrival we were greeted with a (very welcome) glass of wine and sat on the terrace admiring the view down to the Med, and up the hill to St. Paul. The villa was full so there was no chance of upgrading from our garden view room... room was fine, but we'd recommend trying for a Sea View room.

Morning breakfast was served on the terrace - croissants etc, juices, yogurt, eggs (any way), fruit, etc... very nice. If you are back in the late afternoon, 'happy hour' brings guests together on the terrace to swap stories etc over complementary glasses of wine etc. Later on, when you get back from dinner, you will find a trolley just inside the door with wonderful chocolates and 'nightcap' material!

The Villa is a 15-20 minute walk (uphill) from St. Paul. WELL worth exploring... especially before noon (when the hoards arrive by the busload) or after 5pm (when they've left). There are restaurants nearby - John or Anne will be able to recommend something for you.

We didn't take advantage of the pool - but other guests who did found it to be wonderful.

Since our trip would take us to Paris, we decided not to spend any time in Nice (yes, we did see/drive past the port and along the Promenade des Anglais). Aside from visiting St. Paul, we took two day trips - one to the East (Monte Carlo, Tourbie, Eze, Villefranche Sur Mer) and another whole day in Antibes... both wonderful... but, be warned, a rental car WITH a GPS is highly recommended!
