This legendary hotel and restaurant does not live up to its reputation. The grounds of the hotel are extremely pleasant with an amazing view of Les Baux, the ancient town situated above.
My room in the main building was decent, nothing special given the price. The bathroom, on the other hand, was extremely luxurious -- the best I've ever had in France.
The restaurant was shockingly expensive and, sad to say, pretty bad. Dinner for two, with a modest bottle of local wine, came to 440 euros. That's over $600 to those of us who live in the U.S. From the perfectly awful "Bloody Mary granita" through the tough lamb chops to the finale of two or three sickly-sweet desserts, it might have been the worst meal I had in France or anywhere else, for that matter. The chef spent the evening in the dining room accepting congratulations. Perhaps he should get back to the kitchen!
Go for a drink on the lovely terrace in the late afternoon. Enjoy the view, then head elsewhere for dinner and sleep.
