Riboto is the most romantic, most unique wonderful little hideaway we've ever stayed at. It even beat a vineyard we stayed at in Tuscany last year as our new favorite spot! Tucked in a cliff of the Provencial town of Les Baux (about 10 minutes from St-Remy-de-Provence and 30 minutes from Avignon), this "hotel" is truly a gem. With only 6 rooms and family owened and operated, this place is a little piece of heaven in Provence. The owners Phillipe and Christine are charming and accomodating for any request.
We stayed in one of the triagolyte suites, and half the room is literally carved into the cliffs and stayes wonderfully cool and dark with an amazing terrace looking up to the hillside town of Les Baux. The inn used to be a Michelin-rated public restaurant, and then about 8 years ago they decided to convert it to an inn. Now, the same chef is still serving up amazing food but to guests only. So, it's a truly intimate, delicous experience. The menu changes daily based on whatever is picked up at the local markets, so everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. In fact, we only ate their once during our stay, but I wish we ate there all 3 nights! And that's despite eating at Michelin-rated Oustau de Baumaniere just a quick stroll away.
We arrived via train to Avignon and rented a car for our 3 night stay in Provence. Les Baux is a quiet cliff-side town (it's a hike to the top where there are touristy shops and 1 or 2 cafes), and the wonders of Provence are all an easy drive away - Chateuneuf du Pape, the Carmargue, etc.
