“Amazing boutique hotel”

We stayed at La Riboto de Taven for two nights on our honeymoon this past July and had a lovely visit. We were fortunate enough to book into one of their two suites which are truly incredible (280 Eu a night). They are built into the rock face of the limestone rock and they have carved out, what is basically, a cave like area for your to stay. It is amazing and huge! The bedroom was vast with huge tall ceilings, an enormous fireplace and a lovely armoire. There was a WC as well as a huge bathroom. The shower was built right into the cave wall and the separate tub was huge. It was very clean and as my 35 year old husband said, he felt "like Batman when we stayed there. It was the Bat cave!). It was simply incredible.

Christine and her husband, the proprietors, were lovely and offer breakfast in their beautiful garden/courtyard for 18 EU (however, we opted for crepes each morning in town!) This place is also very well known for its incredible menu, but we decided not to eat there as it was a fixed price of 54EU a person which was a bit steep for us.

Not only is there a lovely garden and courtyard (see pictures) but there is also a lovely pool and lounge area. We enjoyed the pool each afternoon after a long hot day.

The location of the hotel is wonderful too and they are a short walk from an up hill path that takes you right up to the town of Les Baux. We had dinner here one night and the next night, in St. Remy which was also a lovely town to explore. There are a ton of local wineries in the area and if you are interested, Christine and her husband will pull together some information and suggestions for you.

This was a wonderful place to stay on our honeymoon and we would highly recommend it for a peaceful and quiet stay in beautiful Les Baux.

“So romantic!”

Riboto is the most romantic, most unique wonderful little hideaway we've ever stayed at. It even beat a vineyard we stayed at in Tuscany last year as our new favorite spot! Tucked in a cliff of the Provencial town of Les Baux (about 10 minutes from St-Remy-de-Provence and 30 minutes from Avignon), this "hotel" is truly a gem. With only 6 rooms and family owened and operated, this place is a little piece of heaven in Provence. The owners Phillipe and Christine are charming and accomodating for any request.

We stayed in one of the triagolyte suites, and half the room is literally carved into the cliffs and stayes wonderfully cool and dark with an amazing terrace looking up to the hillside town of Les Baux. The inn used to be a Michelin-rated public restaurant, and then about 8 years ago they decided to convert it to an inn. Now, the same chef is still serving up amazing food but to guests only. So, it's a truly intimate, delicous experience. The menu changes daily based on whatever is picked up at the local markets, so everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. In fact, we only ate their once during our stay, but I wish we ate there all 3 nights! And that's despite eating at Michelin-rated Oustau de Baumaniere just a quick stroll away.

We arrived via train to Avignon and rented a car for our 3 night stay in Provence. Les Baux is a quiet cliff-side town (it's a hike to the top where there are touristy shops and 1 or 2 cafes), and the wonders of Provence are all an easy drive away - Chateuneuf du Pape, the Carmargue, etc.

“A magical place”

La Riboto de Taven

5 of 5 stars
Hampshire, UK
May 14, 2008

We recently visited la Riboto de Taven for a part of our honeymoon. The overwhelming impression was that Christine, Phillippe and Jean-Pierre care for their guests: nothing was too much trouble for them. The room (one of the troglodyte ones) was large and well-appointed, breakfasts and dinners were superb, the rrace and surrounding gardens immaculately kept - and all within ten minutes walk of the village.

For personal service and quality of accommodation, this hotel is hard to beat in our view.

“Far from the maddening crowd”

La Riboto de Taven

Apr 22, 2008

swarming atop the hill of Les Baux, Riboto de Taven is an excellent choice even if you could care less about the Disneyesque ruins of Les Baux. The hotel is perfect in terms of quiet, comfort, food and design of the garden and I am a tough customer. The location is good for visiting the area and near to St Remy and Arles. The restaurant is wonderful. Enjoy!

“Thoughtfulness is more than a word here”

La Riboto de Taven

Everything at La Riboto de Taven was even better than expected. We had a marvelous time, and Christine and Philippe couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. One morning Philippe offered to have a Cavaillon melon (that we had bought in Cavaillon, of course) prepared for our breakfast--so thoughtful. "Thoughtful" would be the word I would use to describe the way they run the inn.
We had absolutely no complaints about the room, the service, the food, or the location. We could have stayed there longer. It was absolutely the best place we stayed (of five) during our trip to France.
