Christine and Philippe make you feel very welcome in this lovely hotel. We stayed in one of the troglodyte suites cut into the rock. The room was very nice but the bathroom could do with some updating.

The hotel is a good base from which to go exploring in the region. It wasn't warm enough to swim in the pool when we were there, but I expect it would be superb in the summer.

Christine and Philippe run the most wonderful hotel and we can not rate it highly enough.

It really was like ‘coming home’ with such a warm welcome and you know from the second you talk with the owners, your stay will be relaxing and with no request too much trouble for them.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting nestled below, and in, the rocks! The grounds have been impeccably kept, the perfect pool, wonderful seating areas and fantastic food. We understand Christine’s brother, the chef, used to run a Michelin starred restaurant in the UK, and it shows.

Our room was one of the cave suites – what an experience. Stylishly done out and not at all gimmicky. We had our own seating area, table, sun beds and a great view.

We had three very relaxing and enjoyable nights and can’t recommend this hotel enough.

Even the reviews from fellow travallers did not prepare us fully for our stay at La Riboto De Taven, these people have discovered the secret ingredient of hospitality. Our hosts were at our beck and call, our every need catered for but always with the kind word, the gentle smile,we were in their home their guiding hand always there, unseen, unfelt ,yet not in your face. The meals were exquisite, a performance as if by a great orchestra conducted by three people in tune with the needs of their guests. The menu changes each day, choices were limited, but fear not the daily offering was always scrumptious. On leaving, after a three day stay, we had not taken advantage of a booking offer which was available at that time and it was pointed out to us by Christine and our bill adjusted accordingly and graciously. The whole attitude of the proprieters restores ones faith in innkeepers everywhere, almost !!! Finally not cheap but money well spent

“A Slice of heaven in Provence”

La Riboto de Taven

Jul 16, 2007

I've vacationed in Provence a couple times and this hands down was my best experience. It was #1 in Trip Advisor and it deserves it.

La Riboto de Taven is a famous restaurant in the area for some years. The current generation (it has been past down through generations) Philippe and Christine are wonderful hosts and since 2001 have made it into a small hotel as well (i think 6 rooms or so).

These are the things that make it outstanding.

1. The food is amazing. The cook has a passion for fresh local ingredients. The menu changes every night. Philippe is always on hand to give expert advice on which local wines to select to go with the food... Dinner is served in the garden with a view of the cliffs of Les Baux.
Christine comes out after dinner and before dessert with a giant tray of cheeses to sample.

2. They have two "troglodyte" suites which are suites that are half hotel room half cave build into the rocky cliffs that surround Les Baux. Breakfest is served in a private garden outside the room.

3. Philippe and Christine offer great advice on what to do in the area. Super friendly and accommodating for English speakers. There gardens are beautiful. The pool is great... The list goes on and on... Just go and see for yourself. Couldn't find better food, location, luxury, hosts....

    • Disliked — Only improvement could have been bath robes in the room.

Where to begin, the location...perfect, the trogolodyte rooms...unique, cozy and comfortable, the setting...spectacular, the food... impeccable and last but certainly not least Christine and Philippe... the epitome of class. We had the most wonderful two night stay here and only wished that we had had at least a week. It was our last stay before heading home after a week in Monte Carlo, two days outside St Tropez and 4 days outside of Apt, but nothing could compare to our stay at La Riboto.
From the minute we checked in Christine and Philippe were warm and welcoming, insisting on helping us get our bags to our room, delivering us a bottle of wine that Philipe was kind enough to help us select and pointing us in the right direction for dinner that night (unfortunately we arrived on a Wed when the dining room is closed). Our room was amazing. They had put a vase of fresh roses as well as a chocolate rooster for our daughter. We compared it to a stay we had at Blancaneaux Lodge in Belize, that once in a lifetime experience of staying somewhere so unique that you are in awe the whole time. The room had every amenity you would like, and the bed was very comfortable. The view at night looking up at Les Baux was beautiful.
Breakfast was delicious. I am still thinking of the fresh orange, carrot and lime juice that was served each morning, our "vitamins" as Christine called it. The bread basket was filled with home-baked bread items including the best croissants of our trip, all served with homemade jams and an unending supply of potent coffee.
Dinner was a real treat. From the elegant table settings to the delicious four course meal, which was by far the best meal we had out of our two and a half week stay, we lingered for almost three hours. Philippe was wonderful in helping us choose a wine for each course, giving us a history of the wines of the region. We enjoyed speaking with Christine about the property and learning that she was actually born on there as the inn had been her family's home.
Our French is very limited and neither Christine nor Philippe ever made us feel uncomfortable that we could not communicate well in their language. They were just as comfortable speaking to us in English, which we most certainly appreciated.
La Riboto de Taven was an incredible, unforgetable stay. Thank you so much to Christine and Philippe for making our stay so wonderful and being so welcoming to all of us, especially our daughter. We would return in a heartbeat and hope to do so someday.
