We stayed in the Auberge de la Reine Jeanne after reading good and bad reviews on this website, and were charmed. The hotel itself is set in an old building around a very pretty courtyard, full of flowers and two stylish cats, and this courtyard becomes a restaurant in the evening. Our room was reasonably sized, with clean sheets and towels every day, & large bathroom with a bathtub. It wasn't furnished in the style of grand corporate hotels, but it was attractive with solid furniture, ivy round the window shutters and a lovely local quilt - not the polyester horror an earlier review mentioned!
The room's one downside was that it lacked air conditioning, but we were there during a July heatwave (40+) and, once we'd worked out the fan, it was fine. But the real highlight was the delicious food - we dined there the first night, and enjoyed it so much that we went back for four of the five evening meals we had during our stay. Each dinner seemed more delightful than the last, and the menu delivers so many regional specialities, perfectly cooked. There are also two very reasonable set menus. And the staff are lovely, even the waitress who stole my boyfriend's heart! Despite this, I'd definitely go again. A romantic treat!
